At Derby Adult Learning Service, we’re on a mission to provide the best learning opportunities to the citizens of Derby. As an English tutor, you will support adult learners who may have struggled with English in the past, helping them to develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, break down barriers to learning, and become resilient and successful adult learners.
We are looking for a dedicated English tutor who is committed to creating an encouraging and inclusive learning environment, where every learner has the opportunity to thrive and achieve their goals.
The Opportunity
In the role of Adult tutor - English , here’s an example of what you’ll be doing to make an impact:
Planning and delivering diverse courses, ranging from entry level to Level 2 qualifications, alongside tailored programmes designed to meet individual learner needs.
Providing engaging teaching and learning primarily for adult learners aged 19+, helping them to achieve their learning goals, build confidence, and progress into employment, further learning, or their chosen career path.
Working collaboratively with local partners and community groups to engage and support learners across the community, promoting inclusive learning opportunities and positive outcomes for all participants.
About You
To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have...
Innovative Teaching Approach: Bring fresh ideas to the table, constantly exploring creative and effective teaching methods to engage and inspire our learners
Learner-Centric Teaching Style: Put our learners at the heart of everything you do, tailoring your teaching to accommodate various learning styles and needs
Empathetic Mentoring Skills: Understand the challenges adult learners face, and support them with empathy and patience every step of the way.
Recent experience delivering a range of English courses, from entry level to Level 2 Functional Skills and/or GCSE, supporting learners in developing essential communication skills that are practical for everyday life and work.
Applicants must possess a teaching qualification at level 4 or above.
