Here's a version that positions the role as a skilled, specialist position rather than a trainee. It also makes it clear that the person will split their time between the workshop and the electronics bench, which I think is quite an unusual and attractive proposition.
Auto Electrician – Classic Mercedes-BenzThe Role
Join one of the world's leading classic Mercedes-Benz specialists and become part of a team dedicated to preserving and improving some of the finest classic cars ever built.
We're looking for an experienced Auto Electrician to work across two specialist areas of our business. Your time will be split between our vehicle workshops, diagnosing and repairing electrical faults on classic Mercedes-Benz models, and our electronics department, where you'll help repair and remanufacture ECUs, control units and wiring looms.
No two days are the same. One morning you could be fault-finding a Pagoda with an intermittent electrical issue, the next rebuilding a wiring loom or repairing an original control unit on the electronics bench.
If you enjoy diagnosis, problem solving and take pride in repairing rather than replacing, we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll be doing
- Diagnosing electrical faults on classic Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
- Installing, repairing and modifying vehicle wiring looms.
- Repairing and restoring original Mercedes-Benz wiring harnesses.
- Testing, repairing and remanufacturing ECUs and electronic control modules.
- Soldering and replacing components on printed circuit boards.
- Using wiring diagrams and electrical schematics to diagnose faults.
- Testing electrical systems using specialist diagnostic equipment and purpose-built test rigs.
- Supporting restoration projects from complete rewires through to final commissioning.
- Working closely with our workshop technicians and engineering team to solve complex electrical issues.
- Maintaining accurate repair records and documenting technical findings.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys auto electrics and electrical diagnosis. You'll be methodical, patient and enjoy solving problems that others can't.
Ideally you'll have:
- Proven experience as an Auto Electrician.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience repairing and installing vehicle wiring looms.
- Confidence reading wiring diagrams and electrical schematics.
- Good soldering skills and experience working on automotive electronics.
- A logical, analytical approach to problem solving.
- High attention to detail and pride in producing quality workmanship.
Experience with classic vehicles is an advantage but not essential. If you've worked on modern vehicle electrical systems and enjoy getting to the root of difficult faults, we'll help you develop the specialist knowledge needed for classic Mercedes-Benz models.
