JOB DESCRIPTION: PUB ASSISTANT MANAGER
Position: Pub Assistant Manager

Reports To: Pub General Manager
ROLE PURPOSE
The Assistant Manager acts as a core face of our community hub, ensuring every guest receives a warm, neighborhood welcome. Working side-by-side with the General Manager, this role combines operational shift management with active community engagement and hands-on team leadership. The ideal candidate will take pride in maintaining exceptional cellar standards, managing smooth day-to-day operations, and stepping up to lead the venue in the General Manager's absence.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES1.
1. Shift Leadership & Operations
- Shift Management: Lead daily front-of-house operations, ensuring smooth opening and closing procedures, strict venue security, and adherence to operational checklists.
- Managerial Cover: Deputise for the General Manager during their absence, taking full operational accountability for floor leadership, team management, and venue decision-making.
- Financial Controls: Manage daily cash handling, till reconciliations, safe drops, and basic shift reporting.
2. Community & Guest Experience
- Community Engagement: Foster a welcoming "home-from-home" atmosphere by building genuine, lasting relationships with regular locals and neighborhood visitors.
- Event Execution: Help organize, promote, and run community-centric events such as pub quizzes, live sports screenings, charity nights, and seasonal gatherings.
- Service Standards: Maintain an active presence on the floor during peak trading, handling guest feedback and resolving any operational friction quickly and calmly.
3. Cellar, Stock & Quality Control
- Cellar Management: Uphold exceptional cellar cleanliness and standards, including line cleaning, gas system monitoring, and correct handling of cask and keg products.
- Stock Integrity: Manage stock rotation, assist with deliveries, control daily wastage, and ensure all draught products are served to the highest quality.
4. Compliance & Safety
- Licensing Laws: Enforce all local licensing conditions strictly, including "Challenge 25" policies and the responsible service of alcohol.
- Health & Safety: Maintain clean, safe working environments across all public and staff areas in compliance with food hygiene and environmental health regulations.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Experience & Technical Skills
- Hospitality Background: Proven track record as a shift leader, supervisor, or team leader within a fast-paced pub, bar, or hospitality environment.
- Cellar Competency: Practical, hands-on experience or solid baseline knowledge of cellar mechanics, real ale care, and line cleaning.
- Problem Solving: Ability to remain calm, logical, and proactive when managing floor disputes, scheduling conflicts, or mechanical hitches under pressure.

Pay: £12.71-£13.71 per hour
