Network Engineer – Telecom Planning & Automation

Location: Bristol (Hybrid Working) & Milton Keynes
Salary: £42,000 per annum
Working Pattern: Monday – Friday | Hybrid

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Network Engineer with experience in Telecom Network Planning, SQL reporting, and automation scripting to support telecom deployment and operational activities.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong telecom background who can work across network validation, commissioning support, reporting, troubleshooting, and planning systems while contributing to automation and operational efficiency.

You will work closely with telecom engineers, planners, and operational stakeholders to ensure smooth network delivery and service continuity.

Key Responsibilities

Support daily telecom commissioning activities aligned with operational schedules.
Perform network validation, testing, and service assurance checks including RX levels, line testing, and system verification.
Diagnose and resolve network and application-level faults.
Provide technical support for configuration issues and operational incidents.
Assist with debugging scripts and operational tools used in testing and validation.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, reports, and handover packs.
Create detailed job packs for fibre deployment and service delivery.
Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders for network implementation activities.
Maintain accurate technical records and support telecom database updates.
Produce telecom reports using SQL and internal database systems.
Support automation initiatives for telecom network planning and operational processes.

Required Skills & ExperienceEssential Skills

Strong experience in Telecom Network Planning / Telecom Engineering
Good understanding of fibre network deployment and telecom operations
Experience with SQL for: Data extraction, Reporting, Validation, Data updates
Knowledge of telecom databases and DBMS systems
Experience with scripting/automation for operational or planning activities
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills

Telecom & Planning Tools Experience

Experience with some or all of the following tools is highly desirable:

GIS
COSMOS
INS
ORION
WFMT / NGWFMT
JPPA
E-Survey

Desirable Skills

Experience within Openreach environments or telecom infrastructure projects
Understanding of telecom commissioning and service assurance processes
Exposure to automation using VBA, Excel, Shell scripting, or similar technologies
