PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £40,200-£43,000 per annum depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
BBC Radio Northampton is looking for a creative, ambitious and experienced producer to lead our weekday breakfast programme. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the station’s biggest show, setting the agenda each morning and creating content that connects with audiences across Northamptonshire. We’re looking for someone with exceptional editorial judgement, strong production skills and a passion for local storytelling.
You’ll have the drive and creativity to make the programme essential listening, working closely with a small team to deliver compelling, distinctive content that reflects the lives, concerns and interests of people across our patch.
You'll be an energetic and creative leader who loves live radio and understands the unique role local BBC radio plays in people's lives. You'll have a passion for great storytelling, a sharp news instinct and the ability to inspire colleagues to deliver their very best work. Most importantly, you'll be motivated by serving audiences and creating content that makes a genuine difference to local communities.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
Lead the production of BBC Radio Northampton's weekday breakfast programme.
Set the editorial agenda each morning, ensuring the programme reflects the issues, conversations and stories that matter most to people in Northamptonshire.
Work closely with the wider newsroom team, providing editorial leadership, coaching and support to help colleagues produce their best work
Develop creative treatments for stories and features, using outstanding audio craft to bring content to life.
React confidently to breaking news and changing editorial priorities.
Help develop a creative, inclusive and collaborative working environment that allows colleagues to thrive.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
Significant experience producing live radio in a fast-paced broadcast environment.
A proven ability to lead teams and deliver high-quality content to tight deadlines.
Strong editorial judgement and the confidence to make decisions quickly when news is moving fast.
Excellent storytelling and production skills, with a knack for making complex stories engaging and relevant for local audiences.
Experience working closely with presenters and colleagues, bringing out the best in people while maintaining the highest editorial and compliance standards.
DESIRABLE :
A strong knowledge of Northamptonshire and the issues, people and communities that shape life across the county.
A commitment to ensuring our output reflects the full diversity of modern Northamptonshire and reaches audiences from all backgrounds.
