Transport Planner Job Overview 09:00 - 18:00
Wordsworth Excavations Ltd is looking for an organised and motivated Transport Planner to join our busy transport office.
This is a fast-paced role where no two days are the same. You will be responsible for planning and coordinating our fleet of tipper wagons and articulated vehicles, ensuring our customers receive an excellent service whilst maintaining compliance with transport legislation.
Working closely with the Transport Manager, drivers and site teams, you will react quickly to changing customer requirements, vehicle breakdowns and operational challenges to keep the fleet moving safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and schedule daily vehicle movements and driver allocations.
- Maximise vehicle utilisation whilst reducing empty mileage.
- Communicate daily with drivers, customers and site managers.
- Respond quickly to breakdowns, traffic delays and last-minute changes.
- Monitor driver hours, Working Time Directive and tachograph compliance.
- Work alongside the Transport Manager to ensure vehicle maintenance and inspections are considered during planning.
- Ensure all transport paperwork and planning information is accurate and up to date.
- Use transport systems including Haultech, Volvo Connect, Aquarius, Well Hub & other systems.
- Support the transport office with general operational and administrative duties.
- Provide excellent customer service whilst maintaining company standards.
Skills & Experience Essential
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and work under pressure.
- Strong geographical knowledge of the UK road network.
- Good IT skills including Microsoft Office.
- Excellent problem-solving ability.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and manage changing demands.
- Positive attitude with a flexible approach to work.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
- Previous experience in transport planning or a busy transport office.
- Knowledge of UK Drivers' Hours, Working Time Directive and tachograph regulations.
- Experience using transport management systems.
- Experience within the construction, aggregates or excavation industry.
