Aspira Education are recruiting an experienced Pastoral Lead (Designated Safeguarding Lead) to join a specialist SEMH school supporting pupils aged 11-16 with Autism, SEMH, trauma and additional behavioural needs.
This is an exciting opportunity to become part of the Senior Leadership Team within a specialist setting where safeguarding, wellbeing and positive relationships are at the heart of everything they do.
This is a full-time role working Monday-Friday.
Hours: Monday / Wednesday / Thursday 8.30am - 4.45pm / Tuesday 8.30am - 5pm & Friday 8.30am - 4pm

About the Role
As the Pastoral Lead (DSL) you will:
- Lead safeguarding across the school and act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Support pupils with SEMH, Autism and additional behavioural needs.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, families, social workers and external agencies.
- Lead behaviour strategies and support staff with behaviour management across the school.
- Coordinate attendance, early help and safeguarding interventions.
- Work closely alongside the Senior Leadership Team to improve pupil engagement and outcomes.
- Chair and attend multi-agency meetings where required.
- Ensure safeguarding records and documentation remain fully compliant.
- Support pupils through crisis situations using calm, trauma-informed approaches.
- Promote a safe, inclusive and nurturing school culture.
What We're Looking For
We'd love to hear from professionals with experience in:
- Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Deputy DSL roles
- Pastoral leadership within schools
- SEMH or specialist education settings
- Behaviour management
- Family support or Early Help
- Children's social care
- Youth offending teams
- Educational welfare
- Alternative provision or specialist schools
Experience supporting children with Autism, SEMH, trauma or challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Previous safeguarding and pastoral experience within education
- Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and child protection procedures
- Experience working with vulnerable young people
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to remain calm under pressure
- Right to work in the UK
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
- Two recent references
- Ability to start from 3rd September
