Job Purpose
To support the kitchen team in delivering high-quality food safely, efficiently, and consistently. The Kitchen Assistant plays a key role in food preparation, cleaning, stock rotation, and maintaining excellent food hygiene standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesFood Preparation
- Assist chefs with basic food preparation tasks.
- Wash, peel, chop, and prepare vegetables.
- Prepare ingredients according to recipes and chef instructions.
- Portion and label food items correctly.
- Assist with dessert preparation and simple menu items where trained.
Kitchen Hygiene & Cleaning
- Maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen environment at all times.
- Follow cleaning schedules and complete cleaning records.
- Wash pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
- Ensure workstations are cleaned and sanitised throughout service.
- Dispose of waste correctly and follow recycling procedures.
Food Safety
- Comply with all food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Follow allergen control procedures.
- Ensure food is correctly labelled, dated, and stored.
- Follow temperature control procedures for chilled, frozen, cooked, and reheated foods.
- Report any food safety concerns immediately to a manager.
Stock Management
- Rotate stock using FIFO (First In, First Out).
- Assist with deliveries and checking goods received.
- Store deliveries correctly and safely.
- Report shortages, damaged goods, or quality concerns.
Teamwork
- Work closely with chefs and front-of-house staff.
- Assist during busy service periods.

- Operate and maintain the dishwasher safely and efficiently.

- Clean floors, walls, extraction canopies, storage areas, and other kitchen equipment.
- Assist with end-of-day and deep cleaning schedules.
