Salary: Up to £15.89 per hour (Approx. £31,000 per year)
Hours: Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week (Must accommodate 4am starts during spring/summer watering season)

Essential Requirements (Must Meet to Apply)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of proven outdoor work experience in all weather conditions.
- Technical Skills: At least 2 years of practical DIY, property repairs, or general maintenance experience.
- Grounds Care: Practical experience in gardening, landscaping, or public grounds maintenance.
- Leadership: Demonstrated experience directing, coordinating, or supervising at least one other team member.
- Health & Safety: Working knowledge of risk assessments and safe working practices, including working at heights.
- Flexibility: Absolute reliability to work early morning shifts (4am starts) during the peak watering season.
About the Role
Hereford BID Ltd is seeking a proactive, reliable, and hands-on Lead Outdoor Maintenance Operative to keep Hereford city centre clean, safe, and visually appealing for businesses and visitors.
This is a highly varied public realm role combining street cleansing, environmental maintenance, light landscaping, and facilities fabrication. You will work independently for long periods and lead a part-time assistant to deliver visible improvements across the city.
Key Responsibilities
- Environmental Cleansing: Perform high-pressure jet washing, chewing gum removal, graffiti removal, and deep cleaning of public pavements and tight urban spaces.
- Grounds & Floral Maintenance: Manage the summer irrigation schedule for city hanging baskets and planters (requiring 4am starts), alongside weeding, pruning, and deadheading.
- Civic DIY & Repairs: Execute minor property repairs, painting, fixture installations (including hanging basket brackets at height), and basic carpentry tasks.
- Event Support: Assist with the logistical setup, assembly, and dismantling of public event equipment, gazebos, and public stages.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Act as a professional, friendly ambassador for the BID when interacting with city-centre business owners and the general public.
