What are we looking for?
We’re looking for a Junior Data Engineer who is eager to learn, curious about data engineering best practices, and excited to be part of an evolving modern data platform.
This role is ideal for someone early in their engineering career who wants hands‑on experience with Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and T‑SQL, and who is motivated by the opportunity to contribute to our move toward metadata‑driven and config‑driven data pipelines.
You will work closely with senior and mid‑level engineers, learning how scalable data ingestion and transformation frameworks are built, maintained, and automated.
So, what will your day-to-day look like?
Engineering Support & Delivery
- Assist in building and maintaining pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF) and Databricks.
- Write basic T‑SQL queries for data transformation and validation tasks.
- Contribute to the development of reusable components and parameterised pipeline elements.
- Support data modelling tasks by preparing datasets and following established modelling patterns.
- Help ensure data pipelines run reliably, efficiently, and consistently.
Learning, Development & Collaboration
- Work under guidance from senior engineers to understand metadata‑driven concepts and automated pipeline design.
- Participate in code reviews to learn good engineering practice.
- Engage with analysts and data consumers to understand requirements and assist in solution delivery.
- Learn and apply DevOps basics: version control, documentation, and testing fundamentals.
Operational Tasks
- Monitor pipelines and assist with issue resolution.
- Perform quality checks and help identify data anomalies.
- Contribute to process improvements and documentation updates.

Essential
- Basic experience writing T‑SQL (SELECT queries, joins, simple transformations).
- Exposure to ETL/ELT concepts or data transformation processes.
- Understanding of data modelling fundamentals (e.g., tables, relationships, dimensional concepts).
- Strong problem‑solving mindset and willingness to learn modern engineering practices.
Desirable
- Familiarity with Python or PySpark.
- Some hands‑on experience (academic, internship, or practical) with Azure Data Factory and / or Databricks or Spark.
- Exposure to Azure DevOps (repos, pipelines).
- Experience with any cloud platform, especially Azure.
- Awareness of metadata‑driven engineering or reusable pipeline patterns.
- Experience handling structured datasets (CSV, JSON, relational tables).
The Application Timeline
- A first stage call with the internal recruitment team (15 minute call)
- A face to face or video call with the hiring manager (30- 45 minutes)
- On site or Zoom technical test (up to 2 hours)
