Our Wealth Management Team has built a strong reputation for supporting individuals, families and business owners across Devon and the South West.
We are looking for a Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive to join our successful Estates Team based in Teignmouth. This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with around 3 years' post-qualification experience who enjoys estate administration work and wants to build a long-term career within a thriving and supportive team.
Led by Sue Halfyard, our Estates Sub-Team has established strong links within the local community and is trusted by generations of families to guide them through some of life's most important and challenging moments. We believe that the best estate administration lawyers do more than administer estates; they become trusted advisers who build lasting relationships with clients and their families over many years.
Our Teignmouth office is at the heart of a well-established client base, with many local families having trusted Tozers with their affairs across multiple generations. Whilst based in Teignmouth, you will also be part of a much larger and highly regarded Wealth Management team and wider firm, with our head office in Exeter and colleagues working across our three offices.
As the firm continues to invest in its future and develop its presence across Teignbridge, there may be opportunities for our local office offering to evolve further in the coming years. This role therefore offers the best of both worlds: the opportunity to build trusted relationships within the local community whilst benefiting from the resources, expertise, career opportunities and ambitious growth plans of one of the South West's leading law firms. For the right individual, this is an exciting opportunity to become a recognised adviser within the local community, helping local families across generations whilst contributing to the continued growth and success of the team.
If you enjoy working closely with clients, taking ownership of matters and delivering a high standard of personal service, we would love to hear from you
What you'll be doing
Your primary focus will be the administration of a varied caseload of both taxable and non-taxable estates, acting for executors, trustees and beneficiaries through all stages of the administration process.
Working as part of our Estates Team, you will:
- Manage your own estate administration caseload with appropriate supervision and support.
- Deal with all aspects of estate administration, including inheritance tax reporting, applications for grants of representation, estate accounts and distributions.
- Draft Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney for clients as required.
- Meet with clients both in the office and at their homes when appropriate.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, professional contacts and referrers.
- Work closely with colleagues across the wider Wealth Management Team on matters involving succession planning, trusts and tax advice.
- Play an active role in maintaining and developing the team's strong reputation within the local community.
- Support and mentor more junior colleagues where appropriate.
- Contribute to the ongoing success and growth of the Estates Team.
This is a client-facing role offering genuine responsibility and the opportunity to become a trusted adviser to local families
What we're looking for
We are looking for a motivated lawyer who wants to be part of a successful and growing team while building a long-term future with us.
The successful candidate will enjoy developing relationships with clients and understand the importance of providing clear, practical and compassionate advice. Estate administration often involves supporting individuals and families during difficult periods, so strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence are just as important as technical ability.
You will:
- Enjoy working closely with clients and building lasting relationships.
- Be confident managing your own matters while working collaboratively as part of a team.
- Have strong communication and organisational skills.
- Be committed to providing excellent client service.
- Take pride in maintaining high professional standards.
- Be willing to contribute to the growth and development of the team and the firm's profile within the local community.
- Demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships and professional networks.
We are particularly interested in candidates who want to become part of the local community and build trusted relationships that can last for generations.
What you'll have
Ideally, you will have around 3 years' post-qualification experience dealing with estate administration matters, although candidates with slightly more or less experience who can demonstrate the required skills will also be considered.
You will be:
- A Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive.
- Experienced in administering estates from start to finish.
- Comfortable dealing with both taxable and non-taxable estates.
- Able to draft Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney.
- Commercially minded and committed to delivering excellent client service.
- Capable of managing a caseload effectively and meeting deadlines.
- A confident communicator with strong attention to detail.
- Able to work independently while contributing positively to the wider team.
- In possession of a full driving licence and access to a vehicle, as travel to meet clients away from the office will be required.
We are primarily looking for a lawyer who shares our commitment to high-quality work, strong client relationships and long-term growth.
