The shift pattern for this post is full shift
This is a fixed-term post for 12 months.
The position will be a key post in the department dedicated towards the running of Schiehallion Daycare and ward in children and young adults with cancer. The post holder will work closely with other members of the multi disciplinary team carrying out review of patients attending daycare and inpatient ward as well as participating in clinical studies/trials in children and teenagers with Cancer at the Royal Hospital for Children. The team comprises paediatric oncologists, haematologists, research nurses, speciality trainees, clinical trial coordinator, data managers and pharmacists. The post holder will be involved in the care of children and young people undergoing treatment for benign and malignant haematological conditions as well as solid intracranial and extracranial tumours. The team has strengthened the high quality standards of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and developed external links with academic and industrial sponsors. Patients are referred from other centres in Scotland and there has been very positive feedback from referring clinicians, their shared care colleagues and the family themselves about the service of these patients. The team works to an excellent patient care level, with strong pharmaco-vigilance.
The post holder will also have an opportunity to develop an interest in leukaemia/ lymphomas, neuroblastoma, neuro oncology, sarcoma and other solid tumours.
The post holder will be responsible for reviewing patients on clinical trials, both in the in and outpatient wards. The post holder will receive training in all aspects of the role and will work closely with radiology colleagues, requesting the imaging assessments of patients undergoing treatment
The post is suitable for trainees/paediatric trainees wishing to gain further experience in paediatric haematology /oncology / SCT. The post holder will be in an ideal position to acquire new skills and expertise as well as have the opportunity to develop their own projects.
