About the Role

As a Senior Support Worker you will support the operational management of the South Highland Service under the direction of the Service Manager, helping to ensure that care and support are safe, effective, person-centred and compliant with Care Inspectorate expectations, the Health and Social Care Standards, organisational policy and relevant legislation. The post holder will promote rights, dignity, choice, independence and positive outcomes for supported people, while maintaining a flexible, supportive and can-do approach in response to the changing needs of the service.
Main Duties

Promote and uphold the rights of supported people, ensuring privacy, dignity, respect, inclusion, choice, independence and positive risk-taking are embedded in day-to-day practice

Work flexibly, responsively and supportively to meet the changing needs of the service, including participation in on-call duties and adapting working patterns where required
-
Demonstrate a positive, practical and can-do approach that supports colleagues, promotes solutions and helps maintain safe, consistent and compassionate service delivery

Build and maintain positive professional relationships with supported people, families, representatives, colleagues and partner professionals within the boundaries of the role

Support the Assistant Service Manager and Service Manager to ensure the service operates in line with Care Inspectorate requirements, the Health and Social Care Standards, SSSC Codes of Practice, organisational policies and local procedures

Maintain accurate, up-to-date and outcome-focused records, including supported person files, care and support plans, risk assessments, protocols, reviews and electronic systems, ensuring recording is clear, timely and compliant with confidentiality and data protection requirements

Support the review and implementation of person-centred care and support plans so that support reflects assessed need, preferences, communication methods, outcomes and identified risks
-
Promote safe medication practice by overseeing monthly medication orders and supporting robust systems for stock control, storage, administration, recording, auditing and escalation of concerns
-
Coach and support staff to develop competence and confidence in medication management, safe practice, record keeping and the delivery of high-quality person-centred support
-
Complete medication competencies, practical observations, supervision support and additional coaching in line with service expectations, identified learning needs and good practice requirements
-
Identify and respond appropriately to concerns relating to safeguarding, adult support and protection, health and safety, wellbeing, professional conduct or service quality, ensuring concerns are reported and escalated without delay

Contribute to quality monitoring, improvement actions and positive outcomes for supported people through reflective practice, audits, feedback, observations and service review processes

Liaise effectively with partner agencies, including NHS services, social work, psychiatry, learning disability services and mental health services, ensuring communication is professional, timely and focused on coordinated support

Support the induction, shadowing, development and ongoing practice of new staff so they are appropriately prepared, supervised and confident to work safely and effectively

Provide direct care and support when required, leading by example in the delivery of compassionate, respectful and high-quality practice
General Duties

Work in accordance with Care Inspectorate expectations, the Health and Social Care Standards, SSSC Codes of Practice, Highland Home Carers policies and all relevant legal and regulatory requirements

Promote a service culture that is flexible, supportive, respectful and solution-focused, with a clear can-do approach to meeting the needs of supported people, colleagues and the wider service

Contribute to a safe, open and accountable working environment in which concerns, incidents, near misses and poor practice are identified, reported and addressed appropriately

Support continuous improvement through participation in training, supervision, meetings, audits, service development activity and reflective practice

Maintain required learning and development, including Continuous Professional Learning, to meet SSSC registration requirements and the needs of the post

Attend meetings, training sessions and other events relevant to the role, contributing positively and professionally to shared learning and service development

Undertake any other duties reasonably required within the scope of the post, including providing care and support when necessary to maintain service continuity and quality
What are We Looking For?
Essential
Full and valid UK Driving Licence required (access to own vehicle preferred)
Personal/Professional Responsibilities

To be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC)

To complete HHC Induction and ongoing training programme

Undertake and attend any job-related training, regular team meetings or review meetings as requested

Adhere to HHC policies and procedures
