An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist with an interest in mental health to join our friendly, welcoming, and supportive inpatient Occupational Therapy Team at the Bradgate Mental Health Unit, to work within our acute wards, with opportunities to long reach and cross cover into our forensic and PICU wards - with support of the wider team.

In this role, you will work collaboratively with our experienced Band 6/5 Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants, delivering a wide range of Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions to support our patients on their recovery journey.

We warmly welcome newly qualified Occupational Therapists, and we are committed to helping you build confidence and expertise. You will receive ongoing guidance, structured support, and opportunities to develop your practical knowledge, particularly in Model of Human Occupation (MOHO)-based assessments and interventions.

We are dedicated to providing person-centred care, offering a variety of Occupational Therapy pathways including: functional, physical health, cognitive, sensory & psycho-educational.
Our team delivers a diverse and engaging therapeutic programme, including both group sessions and 1:1 interventions, on and off the ward.

You will be joining a large, progressive, and highly supportive OT team, with strong connections across the multidisciplinary teams. Together, we focus on delivering meaningful, occupation-focused interventions that support patients from admission through to discharge and recovery.

As a team, we are passionate about delivering high-quality therapeutic care to individuals experiencing challenges with their mental health. We work closely together to ensure every patient feels supported, respected, and empowered throughout their journey.

We will fully induct you to the site and service. We will protect and dedicate time for you to access regular supervision from a senior Occupational Therapist plus monthly peer supervision and be supported to develop and enhance your skills through our well-established in-service training.

Job Description Summary (Main duties and responsibilities)

You will deliver high-quality, evidence-based occupational therapy assessments and interventions within an acute mental health setting, supporting adults of working age. The service works with individuals experiencing acute mental health difficulties, where distress may be expressed in a range of ways and is understood within the context of each person’s lived experience, neurodiversity, and social determinants of health.

Your practice will be rooted in the principles of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act (including Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards), and Safeguarding responsibilities, ensuring care is lawful, ethical, and person-centred. You will work in alignment with the NHS Long Term Plan, promoting recovery, reducing restrictive practices, and supporting least restrictive, therapeutic environments.

You will adopt a trauma-informed, neuro-affirming, and strengths-based approach, recognising the impact of trauma, adversity, and systemic inequalities. Care will be delivered through co-production, working collaboratively with patients, carers, and the multidisciplinary team to support meaningful recovery, choice, and autonomy. You will actively promote inclusion, equality, and culturally responsive care, in line with the Autism Act and best practice guidance for supporting neurodivergent individuals.

As a registered Occupational Therapist, you will practice in accordance with RCOT professional standards and HCPC standards of proficiency, maintaining high standards of clinical reasoning, risk management, and professional accountability. You will also ensure compliance with GDPR and information governance requirements, maintaining confidentiality and respectful sharing of information.

You will demonstrate leadership within the multidisciplinary team, contributing to a positive, reflective, and psychologically safe working environment. This includes delegating and supporting others, such as Occupational Therapy Assistants and students, to develop skills, confidence, and shared ownership of patient care.

We are committed to supporting your development within Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust. You will receive a comprehensive induction, protected time for regular clinical and managerial supervision, including access to senior occupational therapy leadership and monthly peer supervision. You will also be supported to develop specialist skills through structured in-service training aligned to current evidence, quality improvement, and service development priorities.
