Fire Shield Systems Ltd is a growing specialist in the design, installation and maintenance of fire suppression and fire detection systems across the UK.
As our business continues to expand, we're looking for an enthusiastic and technically capable Design Manager to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Design Engineer or aspiring Design Manager who is looking to take the next step in their career and play a key role in developing our design department.
You'll work closely with senior management to lead technical design activities, support project delivery and help shape the future of our growing business.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will oversee the production and coordination of fire suppression and fire alarm system designs from project handover through to completion.
This is a hands-on role combining technical design, client liaison and team leadership. You'll work closely with Project Managers, Technical Sales, Engineers and suppliers to deliver high-quality, compliant designs while supporting the ongoing development of the department.
You'll also have the opportunity to influence company standards, improve design processes and develop your management skills within a supportive and growing business.
What You'll Be Doing
- Produce and review fire suppression and fire detection system designs.
- Carry out site surveys and technical assessments.
- Prepare hydraulic calculations and supporting design documentation.
- Produce detailed CAD drawings, schematics, P&IDs and Bills of Materials.
- Compile Operation & Maintenance manuals and technical documentation.
- Provide technical support to Project Managers, Engineers and Installation Teams.
- Liaise with clients, consultants and suppliers to resolve technical queries.
- Support tendering activities through technical design input.
- Coordinate the workload of the design function and help prioritise project delivery.
- Mentor and support Design Engineers, sharing technical knowledge and encouraging professional development.
- Review design outputs to ensure quality, compliance and buildability.
- Drive continuous improvement by developing templates, standards and efficient working practices.
- Promote the highest standards of health, safety and quality throughout the design process.
About You

Essential Requirements
- Experience designing fire suppression and/or fire detection systems.
- Good understanding of hydraulic calculations and fire protection design principles.
- Experience using AutoCAD.
- Ability to produce accurate technical drawings and project documentation.
- Understanding of relevant British Standards and fire protection regulations.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- A proactive and solutions-focused approach.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable Experience
- Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D CAD software.
- MAP Fire or Exact hydraulic calculation software.
- Fire alarm schematic design.
- P&ID development.
- Previous experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers.
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 quality environment.
- Experience working within CDM Projects
