MJ Renewables is a growing MCS-certified renewable energy company specialising in Solar PV, Battery Storage, EV Charging and Air Conditioning installations across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and surrounding areas.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Solar PV & Battery Electrical Installer to join our installation team. This is a high-level, hands-on position for an electrician with strong renewable-energy experience who can take ownership of the electrical side of an installation from installation through testing, commissioning and certification.
The successful candidate will work closely with our solar roofing installers, office and technical team to ensure complete installations are delivered safely, professionally, correctly and in line with the approved design, manufacturer requirements and relevant standards.
The Role
You will be responsible for the electrical installation, testing, commissioning and certification of domestic and commercial Solar PV and Battery Storage systems.
We are looking for someone who understands the complete installation process — including how the roof-mounted PV array is installed — and can confidently install and commission inverters and batteries, complete electrical testing, understand G98/G99/G100 and DNO requirements, and ensure the installation is ready for MCS/customer handover.
This is a senior role. We need someone who can work independently, identify problems on site and take responsibility for the quality and compliance of their work.
Key Responsibilities
We are looking for an experienced Solar Electrician / Solar PV Installer who can confidently work on domestic and commercial installations from installation through to commissioning.
Your Role Will Include:
- Installing and connecting Solar PV, hybrid inverters and battery storage systems.
- Installing AC/DC cabling, protection, isolation and associated electrical equipment.
- Connecting PV arrays, inverters, batteries and the property's electrical system.
- Installing and working with roof-mounted solar PV systems, including rails, brackets, hooks and cable management.
- Carrying out inverter and battery setup, configuration and commissioning.
- Setting up CT clamps, monitoring systems, export limitation and battery settings.
- Connecting and commissioning Wi-Fi/network monitoring systems.
- Carrying out electrical testing and fault finding.
- Diagnosing and resolving PV, inverter, battery and communication faults.
- Ensuring installations are neat, safe and completed to a high standard.
- Working from electrical drawings, Single Line Diagrams and manufacturer instructions.
- Completing commissioning paperwork, test results, photographs and installation documentation.
- Supporting G98/G99/G100, DNO and MCS requirements where required.
- Working closely with the office team, roofers and other installers to ensure jobs are completed correctly and efficiently.
- Identifying and reporting any installation issues or additional work required.
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
- Has solid experience in electrical installation and/or Solar PV.
- Is confident working with inverters and battery storage.
- Understands BS 7671 and safe electrical installation practices.
- Can fault-find and solve problems independently.
- Takes pride in producing a neat, professional installation.
- Can work safely at height and is comfortable working on roofs.
- Has good attention to detail and takes responsibility for their work.
- Can communicate well with customers and the wider installation team.
- Holds the relevant electrical qualifications and experience for the role.
- Solar PV, battery, inverter and MCS experience is highly desirable.
Quality Standards
We are looking for someone who takes pride in getting the job right first time. Installations must be safe, compliant, neat, correctly labelled, tested, commissioned and properly documented.
The job does not finish when the panels, inverter and battery are physically installed. The installation is complete when it has been tested, commissioned, certified and all required information has been provided for customer handover and the MCS/DNO process.

We are looking for an experienced Electrician / Solar PV Installer who is confident working independently and takes pride in doing a job properly.
Essential
- Qualified electrician with relevant electrical qualifications and experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with Solar PV and battery storage.
- Experience installing and commissioning hybrid inverters.
- Good working knowledge of BS 7671.
- Understanding of G98, G99, G100 and DNO requirements.
- Confident carrying out electrical testing, commissioning and certification.
- Able to fault-find and resolve electrical, inverter and battery issues.
- Comfortable reading electrical drawings and Single Line Diagrams.
- Good understanding of both AC and DC PV systems.
- Comfortable working at height and alongside roofing teams.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Professional attitude and good customer-facing skills.
Desirable
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Inspection & Testing qualification.
- Solar PV and/or Battery Storage qualifications.
- MCS installation experience.
- Commercial Solar PV experience.
- G99/G100 and DNO experience.
- EV charging experience.
- Experience with Fox ESS, Tesla, Sunsynk, SolarEdge or similar.
- Experience with larger PV or battery systems.

The Person We Are Looking For
This position would suit an experienced electrician who has progressed beyond simply carrying out electrical installation work and wants to take ownership of the complete Solar PV and Battery Storage electrical installation process.
You should be someone who can arrive on site, understand the system design, work effectively alongside the roofing team, install the electrical equipment, configure the inverter and batteries, carry out testing, understand the relevant DNO requirements, commission the system and complete the required certification to a high standard.
