About the Role
We're looking for an enthusiastic, customer-focused Assistant Store Manager to support the day-to-day running of our busy Boots Opticians practice.
Working closely with the Store Manager and clinical team, you'll help deliver an exceptional patient journey while driving commercial performance and developing a motivated, high-performing team. This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same—from supporting customers on the shop floor and managing store operations to assisting with clinical workflows and coaching colleagues.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the Store Manager in delivering the commercial and operational objectives of the practice.
- Lead, coach and motivate colleagues to deliver outstanding customer service and achieve business targets.
- Assist with recruitment, induction, training and ongoing development of the team.
- Create and manage staff rotas, holiday planning and day-to-day resource allocation.
- Support performance management, return-to-work meetings and colleague wellbeing.
- Help maintain high standards of merchandising, housekeeping and store presentation.
- Deliver an exceptional customer journey from arrival through to collection.
- Assist with clinical support activities, including patient pre-screening, dispensing, frame styling and accuracy checks (where appropriately trained).
- Monitor KPIs and identify opportunities to improve sales, customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, NHS requirements, professional standards and Health & Safety procedures.
- Act as Duty Manager in the absence of the Store Manager.
What We're Looking ForEssential
- Previous experience in a retail supervisory or management role.
- At least 6 months' experience working within an optical practice.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Experience leading, coaching or developing a team.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- Commercial awareness with the ability to drive performance.
- A willingness to learn and develop further within optics.
- Confident using IT systems and handling administrative tasks.
Desirable
- Optical dispensing experience.
- Experience supporting clinical services such as pre-screening or dispensing.
- Knowledge of NHS Optical Services.
- Experience analysing KPIs and implementing improvement plans.
Working Pattern
This is a permanent position.
Applicants should be able to:
- Commit to the contracted hours on a permanent basis.
- Work a variety of shift patterns.
- Work evenings and weekends as required.
- Travel to support nearby practices when required.
- Be aged 18 or over.

Pay: £29,500.00-£33,000.00 per year
