Harry’s Café at Yew Tree Barn is an award-winning destination café, proudly recognised as Cumbria’s Café of the Year. We are a busy, thriving business serving high-quality food and hospitality to a loyal customer base and visitors from across the region. (Harry's Cafe is within Yew Tree Barn, specialising in Reclamation & Salvage, Antiques, Galleries and Artisan studios)
Alongside our popular daytime café offering, we host regular Sunday Lunch services and Friday Night Bistro Evenings, making this a varied and exciting management opportunity.
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Café Manager to lead our team, drive standards, and continue to enhance the reputation and success of the business.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the café, ensuring exceptional customer service, efficient operations, and a positive working environment. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires someone who enjoys being visible on the floor, supporting their team, and building strong relationships with customers.
Previous restaurant, hotel, or barista experience is highly desirable, along with supervising and team management skills.
Duties
- Oversee the daily operation of the café, ensuring excellent service standards at all times.
- Lead, motivate and develop a dedicated team, fostering a positive and supportive culture.
- Manage staff rotas, recruitment, training and performance.
- Ensure smooth delivery of busy service periods, including Sunday lunches and Friday evening bistro events.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene, health & safety and cleanliness.
- Monitor stock levels, ordering and cost control.
- Work closely with the owners, Head chef Scott Fairweather, and the kitchen team to identify opportunities to improve and grow the business.
- Act as a welcoming and professional face of Harry’s Café, building relationships with regular customers and visitors alike.
- Drive customer satisfaction and maintain the outstanding reputation of the business.
Skills
- Previous management experience within a busy café, pub, restaurant or hospitality venue.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
- A hands-on approach with a willingness to support all areas of the business when required.
- Passionate about hospitality and delivering exceptional customer experiences.
- Commercially aware, with an eye for opportunities to enhance and grow the business.
- Positive, energetic and team-focused.
