Our statutory homelessness service including in our Housing Solutions Team, has several homeless pathways including our Homeless Prevention Pathways for Offenders, Mental Health and Hospital Discharge, as well as Migration, Rough Sleepers and Domestic Abuse Pathways. We also manage temporary homeless accommodation in Gateshead and work with external agencies to provide accommodation and support to people. We are looking to develop our service offer, and are looking for dynamic people to help us to do this.

Gateshead’s Housing Solutions Service has an exciting opportunity for a Housing Solutions Team Leader to join our team on a fixed term contract for 12 months.

Reporting to the Housing Solutions Manager you will oversee the day-to-day management and supervision of Housing Solutions teams to deliver homelessness prevention, housing advice, and temporary accommodation services in Gateshead.

We are keen to develop our staff with a comprehensive training programme. Our offer includes courses from Shelter and other external sources, as well as internal management training modules and support from the wider management team.

What you'll get to do:

Working with the Housing Solutions Managers to implement the strategic aims of the local authority. Develop clear protocols and procedures for the homeless prevention, housing advice and temporary accommodation services to ensure best practise.
Responsibility for management and supervision of staff teams within the Housing Solutions Service.
Develop and lead on inter-agency networks to provide robust homelessness prevention and tenancy sustainment services.
Assisting in the provision, completion and analysis of statistical returns and reports and ensuring the accuracy of data across the service. Monitoring and reviewing performance targets and standards.
Interpreting relevant legislation, case law and updating and maintaining standard letters and documentation to reflect legal requirements.
To facilitate, ensure and continually review equal access to services to ensure there is no discrimination in service provision, particularly for vulnerable groups and customers with complex needs.
Recognise, research and develop good practise to make cost savings and quality improvements that ensure value for money and ensure this is implemented and reviewed across the service.
Working with other managers and team leaders internally and externally to ensure a streamlined and accessible service.

What you'll bring

Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent
Knowledge of homelessness legislation.
Awareness of current housing and social care issues.
Relevant experience in homelessness or a related field.
Experience managing and supervising teams.
Effective partnership working skills.
Experience in data inupt and Microsoft packages.
Experience in chairing meetings.
Effective communication and organisational skills.
Effective negotiation skills.
Ability to deal with people face to face in potentially difficult situations.
