North Tyneside Council is recruiting a new Head of Finance.

This is a critical appointment for the Authority and the successful candidate will be the Authority’s Deputy s151 Officer, reporting to the Director of Resources and working closely with the Authority’s Senior Leadership Team and Elected Members.

The Finance team play a critical role in enabling the organisation to deliver against its ambitious plans for the borough, helping to ensure a lasting impact for our residents and businesses.

We have recently had CIPFA undertake an independent review of our approach towards financial governance and they described a lot of what we do as sector-leading.

We’re looking for the right candidate to build on this and drive forward the Financial Strategy and Medium-Term Financial Plan, playing an integral part of delivering the Plan for Change programme.

You will be responsible for a large team of professionals across Finance and will play a pivotal role in translating complex, financial information into clear, practical insight to support effective decision making, constructive challenge and helping to ensure value for money.

Modern ways of working, including our systems and digital developments, are a key part of the Authority’s Plan for Change, as it strives to balance improving services with a balanced budget position.

As well as leading the Finance Team, the successful candidate will join an excellent Head of Service cohort in the organisation, who collectively lead the wide range of services across the Authority.

You will need to be able demonstrate sound technical skills coupled with strategic leadership experience, along with the ability to work on a collegiate basis with a range of professionals and elected Members in the organisation.
