Passenger Transport Assistant (PTA) / Escort
Part-Time | Term Time Only | Northumberland
We are a friendly, family-run taxi firm contracted with both Northumberland & Newcastle Council, providing safe and reliable transport for children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to and from school.
We are currently seeking caring, reliable and professional Passenger Transport Assistants (Escorts) to join our team.
Role Details
- Monday to Friday (Term Time Only)
- Minimum 1.5 hours per day
- Maximum 4 hours per day
- 5–20 hours per week available
- Minimum £175 per week
- Working around school drop-off and pick-up times
- Consistent assigned route for the duration of the contract, providing routine and familiarity for the child/children
Responsibilities Include
As a Passenger Transport Assistant, you will be responsible for:
- Ensuring the safety, wellbeing and comfort of passengers during transport
- Providing 1:1 or ratio support as required under council contracts
- Assisting passengers with boarding and alighting vehicles safely
- Supporting children and young people calmly, patiently and professionally
- Managing behaviour positively and appropriately
- Following all safeguarding, health & safety and council compliance procedures at all times
- Working alongside drivers to provide a safe, supportive and reliable transport service

- Comfortable working with children and young people, including those with additional needs
- Professional with a calm and caring approach
- Punctual and committed to providing a consistent service
Experience in care, education, support work or transport assistance is beneficial, but not essential.
Training & Checks
- Relevant training will be provided
- Enhanced DBS check required as part of the application process
