Our client, Albany Surgery based in Newton Abbot, Devon is looking for an experienced and proactive Practice Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of their organisation and help shape its future.
This is a key leadership role, working closely with the Partners and Executive Partner to ensure the practice runs efficiently, meets its strategic objectives, and continues to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.
Full-time or part-time considered.
About our Practice
We are a busy, patient-focused GP practice based in Newton Abbot, serving a diverse local community as part of a wider Primary Care Network. Like many modern general practices, we work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and partner organisations to deliver accessible, coordinated care and support the health and wellbeing of our patients.
About the role
As Practice Manager, you will oversee all aspects of operational performance, people management and business delivery. You will play a central role in leading the team, supporting a positive working culture, and driving continuous improvement across the organisation.
You’ll also help ensure the practice meets all regulatory requirements, including NHS contractual obligations and CQC standards.
Key responsibilities
Operational Leadership & Service Delivery

Oversee the day-to-day running of the organisation to ensure services are delivered effectively

Ensure teams meet their responsibilities and deliver high-quality patient services
-
Maintain compliance with NHS contractual requirements and support achievement of performance targets (e.g. QOF)
-
Lead on service improvement and operational efficiency
People Management & HR
-
Lead, manage and support all clinical and non-clinical staff
-
Line manage key roles (including operational and administrative leads)
-
Oversee recruitment, retention and workforce planning, including succession planning
-
Implement and maintain appraisal, training and development frameworks
-
Manage employee relations processes (disciplinary, grievance, etc.)
-
Ensure all staff are appropriately trained and inducted
Strategic Leadership & Governance

Work closely with the Partners to deliver business strategy and long-term objectives
-
Coordinate partnership meetings, business planning and strategy sessions
-
Lead organisational change, improvement initiatives and projects
-
Support compliance with CQC, NHS and wider regulatory requirements
-
Develop and maintain key organisational policies, procedures and governance frameworks
Financial Management
-
Manage the financial performance of the organisation, including budgets, accounts and forecasting

Liaise with accountants and support the production of year-end accounts
-
Monitor income and expenditure, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency

Oversee payroll, pensions, partner drawings and financial systems
Stakeholder Engagement & External Relations

Act as a key liaison with Primary Care Networks, NHS bodies and external stakeholders

Represent the organisation at meetings and across the wider healthcare system

Manage relationships with suppliers,contractors and service providers

Support patient engagement, including working with the Patient Participation Group
Facilities, Compliance & Risk Management

Oversee premises management, including health and safety and risk assessments

Ensure compliance with SHEF, IT security, data protection and information governance
-
Maintain business continuity and resilience planning
-
Manage contracts, procurement and equipment
-
Oversee the organisation’s IT systems and ensure effective use of technology
-
Deputise for Partners where required
