Job Summary
We are seeking a conscientious, hard working poultry and general farm worker to join our team. We are a small, friendly, family farm looking for a reliable person to work in our free-range poultry units and carry out general farm work.
Duties
- Daily poultry tasks include sorting and packing eggs, collecting floor eggs, keeping the packing area clean and tidy, recording of information and bird welfare.
-Other poultry tasks include pest control inside the poultry shed, including spraying. Maintaining and fixing of poultry equipment, for example, packing machine, drinkers and feeders. Turn around of poultry sheds including striping out and re-installing equipment, cleaning equipment and re-stocking of birds.
-When required, feeding and bedding cattle, including use of a feed wagon, straw chopper and telehandler and assisting the cattle stockperson with general cattle tasks such as bolusing, drenching, dehorning and clipping.
- In addition to operating the cattle feed wagon and straw chopper, tractor driving tasks include topping and bale carting.
- Maintenance of fence lines including knapsack spraying and fixing electric fencing.
-General grounds maintenance including grass cutting, weed control, tree and hedge management.
-General farm maintenance including the upkeep of equipment and buildings.
- Other general farm duties.
Qualifications and experience
- A qualification in and/or experience of livestock farming is essential, ideally in poultry.
-Experience of driving tractors and a telehandler, ideally with a licence, is essential.
-Ability to fix and maintain farm machinery is desirable.
-The ability to learn how to fix and maintain poultry equipment is essential. Experience of fixing poultry equipment, or similar, is desirable.
Essential attributes
- The candidate must be reliable, conscientious, hardworking, trustworthy and have a passion for animal husbandry.
- The candidate must be able to work on their own and as part of a small team. The candidate must be able to work unsupervised and when required be responsible for the running of the farm.
- The candidate must be physically fit due to the nature of the role, for example, heavy lifting.
- The farm has high expectations of animal welfare, health and bio-security, the candidate must share and uphold these standards.
This post is full time, approximately 42.5 hours a week. Start time is 7.30am. Monday to Saturday mornings must be covered, with the remainder of the hours being completed on weekday afternoons. Exact times to be discussed at Interview. The successful candidate will occasionally be required to work additional hours (either paid or time off in lieu) usually when the business owner is away from the farm. The salary agreed will be dependent on experience. If desired by the candidate, the number of hours worked could be shortened and salary adjusted pro rata, providing the number of mornings specified above are covered.
