Full job description

About The Role

We are looking for a driven and talented individual to join our accountancy team. As Group Accountant you will be responsible for providing full and varied accountancy advice to service managers and senior leadership to ensure the resulting decisions are efficient and make the best use of Council resources.

In addition to advising managers, you will be responsible for monitoring the Councils budgets, ensuring the Councils financial records are accurately maintained and complete year end entries enabling the closure of the council’s accounts.

This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional who enjoys working collaboratively, influencing decision-making and ensuring financial compliance and accuracy.

This is a fixed term contract for up to 12 months, covering Maternity Leave.

About You

We are seeking someone who has experience of working in a financial environment, preferably within a local government setting. You will have excellent IT skills and the ability to effectively discuss financial topics with a wide range of people with varying levels of understanding.

You will have:

A recognised accountancy qualification (such as AAT) or equivalent.
Experience in a finance environment, ideally within a large organisation.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting and VAT.
Advanced Excel and broader Microsoft Office skills.
Experience using and administering financial management systems.
Excellent analytical, communication and problem-solving skills.
The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
