JOB TITLE: Workshop Fitter
REPORTS TO: Service Manager
JOB PURPOSE: Servicing and maintaining Fox (Owmby) Limited’s and their Customers mobile and fixed equipment in a safe and cost effective manner
PAY: Competitive pay depending on Experience
WORKING HOURS: 7.30am - 5pm
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Completing a basic risk assessment whether on site or in the workshops prior to any work commencing. If there are any issues raised at this stage the fitter is to ensure that they are brought to the site supervisors’ or workshop supervisors’ attention and properly addressed prior to proceeding with the work
Servicing and repairing any item of equipment in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications and/or Company instructions or bulletins
Carrying out testing and diagnostic checks in a safe and methodical manner
Carrying out diagnosis and repairs to low voltage vehicle electrical systems
Carry out welding repairs using electrical and oxy fuel welding systems
Completing service sheets and worksheets at the end of each job or segment of the job if it still continues
Completing worksheets at the end of each job or segment of the job if it still continues
Using parts literature to assist their supervisors or store men and communicating effectively with them in identifying spare parts including ordering the correct quantities of parts required
Returning unused parts in any original packaging and in a clean condition
Reporting any outstanding work that is not completed regarding tasks given in a prompt manner both verbally to the workshop supervisor and written on the appropriate worksheet
Bringing to the attention of the management any faults that compromise the safety or the proper operation of any item of equipment whether mobile, static or maintenance equipment immediately and if required immobilising the item in question until the fault can be resolved
Working in a tidy manner at all times complying with Company and client rules regarding health and safety and environmental requirements which include ensuring that all waste created is properly recovered for recycling or disposal and appropriate PPEis worn as required
Driving Company vehicles in a safe and courteous manner observing road traffic law and therefore promoting a positive image of the Company. If the Company vehicle is normally used by the fitter it is his responsibility to keep it well maintained, clean and tidy
Informing the Workshop Supervisors as soon as is reasonably possible if for any reason they are absent from work other than a pre-arranged day off
Carrying out other duties that the post may require should the Workshop Manager or Company Directors deem necessary
Working in a safe and environmentally conscious manner and complying with related statutory requirements. Adhere to relevant Safety, Quality and Environmental procedures from the Company’s Management Systems
Carrying out failure diagnosis and provide reasoned suggestions for improved service life of components or machines
Providing maintenance and repair cover over statutory holiday periods
Valeting and cleaning vehicles to a satisfactory standard for issue to site and customers
Service and repair of mobile plant, tanks and auxiliary equipment
Service and repair of HGV’s
Service and repair of light vans
Service and repair of cars
Attending courses deemed necessary by the Company to enhance skill levels whether product related or of a health, safety or an environmental nature
Control of Apprentices, Trainees or subordinate workers tasked to work with you ensuring they work in a safe, responsible and effective manner
Mentoring Apprentices/Trainees working with you, or in the workplace in general, at all times to further their education
Carry out periodic testing, inspection and calibration of machines, ancillaries and work equipment, brake testing, lifting gear, inspection, antifreeze, testing etc
Carry out cleaning, testing, calibration, filling and emptying of fuel tanks
Assisting all other trades with their tasks if practicable to do so to ensure efficient servicing times are met
Delivery and collecting goods or documents to and from site, local suppliers, clients and local authorities and acting as driver’s mate to the Transport Department when necessary
Adhere to relevant safety, quality and environmental procedures from the Company’s Integrated Management System and comply with related statutory requirements
