We have an opportunity for a Principal Structural Engineer to join our multi discipline workforce at Align Property Services.

Our Structural team and has grown into a dynamic and collaborative group. We’re a close-knit team led by our Associate Engineer, we bring together a diverse range of experience levels, from senior engineers to engineers and junior members, supporting learning and progression at every stage. We have a d passion for delivering innovative and sustainable structural solutions and we’re looking for someone who’s excited to contribute, learn, and help shape the future of our team.
Our Structures team is working on a diverse and exciting mix of projects across the region, from new‑build care homes in North Yorkshire to the high‑profile Catterick Levelling Up Fund development, alongside residential programmes for Rotherham Council. We also support local clients through condition surveys, major roof replacements, conservation‑led projects, and education schemes such as Melsonby Primary School. As a Principal Engineer, you’ll be part of a collaborative and supportive team where your experience will help guide projects, mentor others, and play a key role in shaping both our work and our people as the team continues to grow.

What You’ll be Doing
- Lead the delivery of structural engineering projects from feasibility through to completion
- Work collaboratively with other disciplines to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, on time, and within budget
- Apply your significant engineering experience in day‑to‑day project work, technical decision‑making, and problem solving
- Oversee and review designs, ensuring quality, compliance, and best practice throughout all stages
- Monitor project resources and finances to support successful, well‑managed delivery
- Provide leadership and direction that inspires, supports, and develops a high‑performing team
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, helping the team consistently meet and exceed targets
What We’re Looking for
- A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent), with substantial post‑qualification experience gained within an engineering design consultancy
- Chartered Engineer status (IStructE or ICE), or actively working towards chartership
- Proven experience managing the delivery of multiple projects and supporting the development of others
- Strong knowledge of relevant UK standards, Eurocodes, design guidance, and Building Regulations
- Experience coordinating detailed designs and specifications using first‑principles calculations and software such as AutoCAD, Tedds, Tekla Structural Designer, or similar
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues, clients, and external consultants
- Proficiency in undertaking structural condition surveys and preparing clear, professional reports
- Demonstrated capability in both conceptual and detailed structural design across new‑build projects, refurbishments, and extensive survey‑led schemes, using a range of structural materials
- A good understanding of project programmes, commercial awareness, and budget constraints
- Confident IT skills, including the use of Microsoft Office packages
- A full UK driving licence
