Roles are either ‘site based’ or ‘home based’.
Site based roles are mainly based at the workplace, with the option to work from home for up to two days a week, depending on service needs.
Home based roles are mainly based at home, with the expectation of attending the workplace up to one day a week.
The working arrangement for each role is set by the manager, based on service requirements.
Job Introduction
We’re recruiting a SEND EHC Assessment and Review Officer to join our dedicated SEND team at Milton Keynes City Council.
The central Admin Team are responsible for all the legal processes around Education, Health and Care Plans, from initial requests for assessment, through to drafting and then reviewing plans on an annual basis.
They ensure legal timeframes are met and work towards the SEND Strategy, ensuring positive outcomes for children and young people across Milton Keynes.
As a SEND EHC Assessment and Review Officer, you’ll play an important part in supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities by coordinating assessments, reviews and funding processes, while helping families, schools and professionals navigate statutory requirements.
You’ll work closely with colleagues, schools, parents, carers and partner organisations to ensure Education, Health and Care Plans are accurate, high quality and delivered within legal timescales.

This is a Site-Based role, and you’ll be expected to work from the designated workplace.

Role Responsibilities
- Managing a caseload of statutory assessments and annual reviews to ensure legal timescales and national performance measures are achieved.

Coordinating Education, Health and Care assessment and review processes with families, schools and professionals.

Managing Education, Health and Care and top-up funding arrangements to ensure resources are used effectively and deliver positive outcomes for children and young people.

Working with Data and Placement colleagues to maintain accurate records and information systems.

Attending and supporting Education, Health and Care co-production meetings and annual reviews where required.

Providing clear advice and guidance on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities legislation, local processes and statutory responsibilities to a wide range of stakeholders.

Supporting colleagues across the team to manage workload pressures and maintain statutory compliance.

Contributing to continuous improvement activities that support Milton Keynes’ SEND Strategy and wider SEND Partnership.
Ideal Candidate
- You will hold an NVQ Level 3 qualification in Business Administration or a relevant professional qualification, together with an understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities legislation and associated processes.

Perhaps you already have experience working in education, local government or another relevant environment where accuracy, organisation and customer focus are essential.

Your strong communication skills allow you to produce high-quality written work whilst building positive relationships with families, schools and professionals.

A natural organiser, you can prioritise competing demands, manage deadlines and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

Confidence in using digital systems, including Microsoft Office applications and specialist databases, will help you succeed in this role.

Resilient and adaptable, you can manage challenging conversations professionally and support decisions made by the Local Authority.

Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively, you’ll contribute positively to a supportive and values-driven team.
Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle
To be successful in this role, you’ll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. If we offer you the role, we’ll ask you to provide evidence of your driving licence and vehicle insurance, including cover for business use. We’re unable to confirm an appointment until these documents are received.
As part of the pre-employment checks, should you be offered the role, we’ll carry out an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, (unless you are currently registered with the DBS Update Service).
