Full job description

Join our dedicated team as a Deaf Care Support Specialist, where your passion for providing high-quality care and effective communication will make a meaningful difference in the lives of Deaf, Deafblind, and Hard of Hearing people. In this rewarding role, you will provide compassionate, person-centred care while promoting independence, dignity, and wellbeing. Using British Sign Language (BSL) and other accessible communication methods, you will ensure individuals receive the care and support they need in an environment that respects Deaf culture and removes communication barriers.

Duties

Provide high-quality, person-centred care to Deaf, Deafblind, and Hard of Hearing individuals.

Communicate effectively using British Sign Language (BSL) and other accessible communication methods to ensure individuals fully understand their care and can express their needs.

Assist with personal care, daily living activities, and promoting independence while respecting each person's dignity, privacy, and choices.

Develop, implement, and review personalised care plans tailored to each individual's needs and preferences.

Monitor individuals' physical and emotional wellbeing, reporting any concerns promptly to the appropriate healthcare professionals.

Administer or support medication in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.

Support individuals to attend appointments, social activities, and other essential services where required.

Drive service users safely to appointments or activities when necessary.

Maintain accurate care records, medication documentation, incident reports, and daily notes using electronic care systems.

Promote safeguarding, infection prevention, health and safety, and best practice in all aspects of care.

Work collaboratively with families, healthcare professionals, interpreters, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver outstanding care.

Support colleagues by promoting Deaf awareness and inclusive communication practices.

Qualifications

Experience working within a care, health, supported living, or domiciliary care environment.
British Sign Language (BSL) qualification (Level 2 minimum preferred; Level 3 or above desirable).
Good understanding of Deaf culture and the communication needs of Deaf, Deafblind, and Hard of Hearing people.
Experience developing and following person-centred care plans.
Caring, compassionate, and professional approach with excellent communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good IT skills for maintaining electronic care records.
Knowledge of safeguarding, medication procedures, infection control, and health and safety.
Full UK driving licence with a clean driving record (desirable).
