About Us
We are a growing container transport and logistics company specialising in UK port container haulage and nationwide transport solutions. We are expanding our operations and are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Transport Planner / Logistics Operator to help develop and grow our container logistics division.
This is a hybrid working opportunity for someone with strong knowledge of UK ports, shipping lines, and container haulage operations.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and developing container transport operations across UK ports while helping establish new commercial relationships with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and logistics partners.
This role combines transport planning, operational coordination, and business development responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning and coordinating container transport movements nationwide
- Managing collections and deliveries from major UK ports including:
- Felixstowe
- Southampton
- London Gateway
- Liverpool
- DP World terminals
- Rail terminals and container depots
- Setting up and maintaining operational accounts with:
- UK ports
- Shipping lines
- Container depots
- Port community systems
- Booking port slots and managing VBS systems
- Actively approaching and developing relationships with shipping lines and freight forwarders
- Seeking new container haulage opportunities and regular transport work
- Liaising daily with drivers, customers, ports, and shipping lines
- Managing container returns, empty parks, and quay collections
- Monitoring fleet movements and ensuring operational efficiency
- Handling transport documentation and customer updates
- Resolving port, customs, and operational issues quickly and professionally
- Ensuring compliance with transport regulations and operational procedures
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in container haulage and transport planning
- Strong understanding of UK port operations and container logistics
- Experience working with shipping lines and container depots
- Knowledge of UK port systems and booking platforms
- Ability to independently set up operational accounts and onboarding processes
- Commercial awareness and confidence approaching potential customers and shipping lines
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently from home
- Strong problem-solving and multitasking abilities
- Good IT and transport system knowledge
Preferred Experience
- Experience with systems such as:
- Destin8
- CNS
- TOPS
- VBS booking systems
- Existing industry contacts within shipping lines or freight forwarding
- Knowledge of demurrage, detention, and container control processes
- Experience in business development within transport or logistics
