Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Officer to join our team.
The Role
Reporting to the Compliance Manager, the HSE Officer will play a key role in supporting and promoting a positive health, safety, and environmental culture across the business. Working closely with site personnel and management teams, you will ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, company policies, and industry best practices while driving continuous improvement initiatives throughout our operations. The role will include a hybrid approach of office and site based duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation across company operations.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance with statutory and company requirements.
- Monitor high-risk activities and verify that safe systems of work are being followed.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and non-conformances, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Prepare and present regular reports on HSE performance, compliance status, and key performance indicators.
- Work closely with site management teams, subcontractors, and client representatives to promote safe working practices.
- Support and maintain compliance with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems, including participation in internal and external audits.
- Identify and implement improvements to working practices that enhance safety, environmental performance, and operational efficiency.
- Deliver HSE inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings to employees and contractors.
- Promote a positive safety culture through effective communication and employee engagement.
- Ensure the availability, suitability, and correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Coordinate and administer the company Health Surveillance Programme.
- Assist with environmental initiatives, including carbon assessment and sustainability projects.
- Build strong working relationships across all levels of the organisation to ensure effective implementation of HSE initiatives.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent) as a minimum.
- Minimum of two years' experience in a Health, Safety & Environmental role.
- Previous experience within the construction, quarrying, manufacturing, or related industries.
- Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and best practice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- CSR Card.
- Experience working within ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certified environments.
- Knowledge of environmental management and sustainability initiatives.
