Job Description

TITLE OF POST: Cybersecurity Engineer

LOCATION: LoughTec Ltd - NI based role - not fully remote

RESPONSIBLE TO: Helpdesk Manager

Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Cybersecurity Engineer to join our dynamic security team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in defending our organization against cyber threats by managing and improving our Security Operations Center (SOC), responding to incidents, and enhancing our overall cybersecurity posture. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, handling cutting-edge technology and complex challenges in cybersecurity.

Key Responsibilities:

Incident Response (IR):

Investigate and respond to security incidents, ensuring rapid containment, eradication, and recovery.
Conduct root cause analysis of security breaches and create detailed incident reports.

Security Operations Center (SOC):

Monitor and analyse security alerts and logs from various tools such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, and endpoint detection systems.
Identify and escalate potential security threats or vulnerabilities in real-time.

Threat Intelligence and Analysis:

Proactively research and assess emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and attack vectors.
Develop strategies to mitigate risks based on threat intelligence.

System and Network Security:

Perform vulnerability assessments and penetration testing on systems and networks.
Implement and maintain security tools, such as firewalls, endpoint protection, and email security systems.

Collaboration and Training:

Work closely with cross-functional teams to improve security awareness and train staff on incident prevention and response.
Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members and SOC analysts.
Participate in regular security audits, risk assessments, and compliance activities.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
Experience: 4+ years of experience in cybersecurity, preferably in SOC, incident response, or threat analysis roles.
Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CEH, GCIH, GCIA, or CISM are highly desirable.
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, and threat-hunting tools.
- Experience with scripting and automation using Python, PowerShell, or similar languages.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and security controls.
- Familiarity with cloud security (Azure, M365) is a plus.
- Experience configuring & supporting Windows 2016, 2019, 2022 Server
- A sound knowledge of networking principles.

Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle multiple tasks effectively.
- A high level of self-motivation together with a willingness to learn new skills.
- A flexible and enthusiastic approach to the job.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Training
Internal training on products and services will be provided. However, staff are also expected to be consistently keeping abreast of new developments, which would impact on his/her areas of responsibility.

Travel:

Mileage is claimed at 33p per mile for site visits - so being based in NI/ROI in closer proximity is mandatory

Hours of Work:
Your normal working hours will be Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5:00pm.

Death in service cover will be arranged @ 2 x annual salary.

Health Insurance:
Health plan is available to all employees.

Work From Home:

LoughTec provides a work from home option, when occasionally required and permitted.

Please Note - LoughTec do not offer any 100% remote working roles hence any applicants location is required to be reasonable distance for both client site visits in NI & ROI and also for travel to Omagh HQ.
