Part-Time Supervisor – Job Description

Gym Manager / Operations Manager

Salary & Benefits

· Hourly Rate: £13.21

· Hours: 20 hours per week

· Annual Leave: 10 days (+4 stat) (pro rata)

Job role

The Part-Time Supervisor is responsible for supporting the safe and effective day-to-day operation of the gym, ensuring high standards of customer service, cleanliness, and compliance with health and safety legislation in Northern Ireland.

This is a hands-on role combining supervision, customer service, facility maintenance, and fitness instruction. The successful candidate will be required to deliver gym classes as part of their shift and play a key role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming fitness environment.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Supervision

· Oversee the day-to-day running of the facility during assigned shifts

· Act as the most senior person on duty in the absence of management

· Support, supervise, and guide team members

· Assist with opening and closing procedures in line with company policy

Fitness Instruction & Classes (Essential)

· Deliver group exercise classes as part of scheduled shifts

· Ensure all classes are safe, engaging, and suitable for varying fitness levels

· Provide support and guidance to members on the gym floor and take inductions to new members

Cleaning & Maintenance

· Maintain high standards of cleanliness across all gym areas

· Regularly clean, sanitise, and organise gym equipment and facilities

· Restock supplies such as cleaning products and toiletries

Customer Service

· Provide a friendly and professional welcome to all members and visitors

· Answer queries, provide assistance with equipment, and offer gym tours

· Support a positive member experience to encourage retention

Health & Safety (NI Compliance)

· Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work (Northern Ireland) Order 1978

· Monitor the gym floor to ensure safe use of equipment and identify hazards

· Report and record any accidents, incidents, or faulty equipment

· Take appropriate action to maintain a safe environment at all times

Facility & Equipment

· Report maintenance issues promptly to management

· Ensure all equipment is safe, functional, and used correctly

Administration & Operations Support

· Assist with memberships, bookings, and reception duties

· Handle payments in line with company procedures

· Support the wider team during busy periods

Person Specification

Essential

· Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification (or equivalent)

· Ability and willingness to deliver fitness classes during shifts

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills

· Ability to work independently and take responsibility when on shift

· Understanding of health and safety responsibilities in the workplace

· Friendly, approachable, and professional manner

· Flexibility to work shifts including early mornings, evenings, and weekends

Desirable

· Group Exercise / Class Instruction qualification

· Valid First Aid at Work certificate

· Previous experience in a gym, leisure, or customer-facing environment

Key Skills & Attributes

· Reliable and punctual

· Strong attention to detail, particularly in cleanliness and safety

· Confident leadership and decision-making ability

· Ability to work effectively as part of a team

· Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure

Working Hours

This is a part-time role of 20 hours per week. Shifts will vary and may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends in line with business needs.

Terms & Conditions

· Employment will be subject to a contract of employment in accordance with Northern Ireland employment law

· A probationary period will apply - 6 months

· The successful candidate may be required to undertake training relevant to the role.
