BHX Fire & Rescue is seeking dedicated, disciplined and safety‑focused individuals to join our Airport Firefighter team. This role involves responding to emergency situations, maintaining operational readiness, and supporting the safe operation of aircraft and airport infrastructure. Following full training, you will carry out firefighting, rescue and humanitarian duties while upholding the high standards expected within a regulated, safety‑critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Emergency response - Respond immediately and safely to all emergency calls and requests for assistance.
- Operational duties - Deal with incidents as directed and work effectively as part of a disciplined team.
- Training & competence - Maintain high competence in all fire service equipment, procedures and practices through regular training.
- Extraneous duties - Carry out medical calls, fire alarm testing, special services and routine administrative tasks.
- Vehicle & equipment operation - Operate fire appliances, emergency vehicles and specialist equipment safely and confidently.
- Working in challenging environments - Ability to operate in heat, smoke, darkness, confined spaces and at heights.
- Standards & readiness - Maintain physical fitness, personal appearance, and compliance with BHX Fire & Rescue and CAP 699 standards.
Minimum Requirements
- Decision‑making under pressure - Confident making critical decisions in emergency or pressure situations.
- Physical fitness - Demonstrates the required physical fitness for the position.
- Educational requirements - Ability to pass Maths, English and Situational judgement assessment.
- Valid full UK driving licence
- Ability to work a variety of shift patterns (days and nights)
Desirable Requirements
- Professional qualifications - British Safety Council Level 2, Level 3 Teaching Qualification, and Level 3 Assessor Certificate
- Mechanical aptitude - Strong practical understanding of tools, equipment and mechanical systems.
- GCSE (or equivalent) - Maths, English and Science.
Recruitment Process
- Basic assessments — Candidates will complete basic Maths and English assessments as part of the recruitment process.
- Assessment days — Mandatory Assessment Days will take place on 7th & 8th September.
- Interview stage — Interviews will be held week commencing 28th September.
