Role Overview
Nexus Adapt is seeking a skilled and reliable self-employed part-time UPVC Door Installer / Door Surveyor to support our residential adaptation works across Norfolk and Suffolk.
The role will involve surveying existing door openings, taking accurate measurements, assisting with the correct specification of replacement doors, and installing UPVC and composite replacement doors in residential properties.
A key part of the work will include the installation of low-threshold accessible doors for customers with mobility needs, disabled adaptations, council works, and private customers.
Nexus Adapt will supply all job-specific materials to site, including the replacement door, trims, cills, silicone, fixings, thresholds, door furniture, and associated installation materials. Nexus Adapt will also be responsible for removing and disposing of waste materials from site.
We are looking for a skilled person who can install doors properly, work independently, and complete the job to a clean, safe, and professional standard.
Key Responsibilities
The successful subcontractor will be responsible for:
- Surveying existing door openings before replacement works.
- Taking accurate measurements for replacement UPVC and composite doors.
- Providing accurate survey information so Nexus Adapt can order replacement doors from its approved supplier.
- Identifying the correct requirements for each installation, including threshold type, cill, trims, glazing, handles, locks, and door furniture where required.
- Checking job sheets, survey notes, drawings, and specifications before starting work.
- Removing existing doors, frames, trims, and associated materials safely.
- Installing replacement UPVC and composite doors in residential properties.
- Installing low-threshold accessible doors where required.
- Ensuring all doors are fitted square, level, secure, weatherproof, and fully operational.
- Fitting locks, handles, door furniture, cills, trims, seals, fixings, and thresholds.
- Using materials supplied by Nexus Adapt, including doors, trims, fixings, silicone, sealants, cills, and associated installation materials.
- Carrying out minor making-good works around the installation area where required.
- Sealing, trimming, and finishing installations to a professional standard.
- Completing final quality checks before leaving site.
- Reporting any issues, defects, incorrect measurements, variations, or missing materials promptly.
- Keeping the work area clean, tidy, and safe during the installation.
- Placing waste materials in an agreed location ready for removal by Nexus Adapt.
- Communicating professionally with customers, Nexus Adapt staff, suppliers, and other trades.
- Supporting other Nexus Adapt works where agreed, including ramps, steps, handrails, grab rails, and minor adaptation works.
Materials, Waste and Equipment
Nexus Adapt will supply all job-specific materials to site, including:
- UPVC or composite replacement doors
- Door frames and thresholds
- Cills and trims
- Silicone and sealants
- Fixings
- Door furniture where required
- Any other agreed job-specific materials
Nexus Adapt will also be responsible for removing and disposing of waste materials from site, including:
- Old doors
- Old frames
- Old trims
- Packaging
- General installation rubbish
The subcontractor will be expected to keep the working area tidy during the installation and leave waste materials safely stacked or placed in the agreed location for Nexus Adapt to remove.
The subcontractor will be expected to provide their own suitable hand tools and power tools required to complete the installation, unless otherwise agreed in advance.
Skills and Experience Required
The ideal subcontractor should have:
- Previous experience installing UPVC or composite doors.
- Ability to survey and measure door openings accurately.
- Good practical skills in carpentry, construction, property maintenance, or adaptation works.
- Confidence using hand tools and power tools safely.
- Understanding of door alignment, locking systems, thresholds, sealing, trims, cills, and finishing details.
- Ability to follow survey notes, drawings, job sheets, and specifications.
- Good problem-solving skills on site.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
- Good communication skills with customers and team members.
- Ability to work safely, efficiently, and professionally.
- Physical ability to lift materials, remove old frames, and carry out manual site work.
- A tidy and respectful approach when working in people’s homes.
Self-Employed Requirements
As this is a self-employed subcontractor role, the successful person will be expected to:
- Provide their own suitable tools for the works.
- Hold suitable public liability insurance.
- Be responsible for their own tax, National Insurance, and business administration.
- Provide invoices for completed works.
- Work safely and in line with Nexus Adapt’s site requirements and health and safety procedures.
- Maintain professional standards when representing Nexus Adapt on site.
- Have their own transport unless otherwise agreed.
- Be willing to complete or provide evidence of DBS checks where required for council or vulnerable customer works.
Desirable Experience
The following would be beneficial:
- FENSA, Assure, MTC, or equivalent installation experience.
- Experience working on disabled adaptation works.
- Experience with low-threshold doors and accessible entrances.
- Experience working for councils, housing associations, or domestic adaptation contractors.
- Basic carpentry, making-good, or finishing experience.
- Full UK driving licence.
Standards Expected
Nexus Adapt works in people’s homes, often for elderly, vulnerable, or disabled customers. The successful subcontractor must therefore be respectful, patient, trustworthy, and professional at all times.
All work must be completed to a standard that would be acceptable in your own home. Poor workmanship, untidy finishing, incorrect measurements, avoidable snagging, or careless installation will not be acceptable.
The subcontractor will be expected to:
- Attend agreed jobs on time and prepared.
- Survey accurately before replacement doors are ordered.
- Provide clear and accurate information for ordering.
- Install doors correctly and to a high standard.
- Look after customer property and Nexus Adapt materials.
- Follow job instructions properly.
- Communicate clearly if problems arise.
- Complete works right first time wherever possible.
- Leave each property clean, safe, secure, and presentable.
Summary
This is a practical part-time subcontractor role for an experienced UPVC door installer or tradesperson who can survey, measure, and install replacement doors to a high standard.
Nexus Adapt will supply the materials to site and remove the waste. We require a skilled installer who can complete the work properly, safely, and professionally.
We are looking for someone reliable, accurate, tidy, and capable of working independently while maintaining the high standards expected by Nexus Adapt.
