Drainage and Plumbing Engineer – Leicester / East Midlands £30,000 basic | Realistic OTE £55,000–£65,000+ | Company van, fuel card, tools and uniform
First, the honest bit
This is a reactive drainage and plumbing role. That means blockages, leaks, CCTV surveys, no-dig repairs and fixing things that have gone wrong for real people who need the problem sorted today.
If you have spent most of your career laying new pipes on construction sites or doing first and second fix on new builds, this is probably not the right move for you. Not because that experience isn't valuable, it absolutely is, but this job is a different world and we want someone who already knows that world.
If, on the other hand, you are the kind of engineer who thrives on diagnosing a problem, getting stuck in, explaining it clearly to a customer and leaving a job tidier than you found it, then read on.
What the job actually looks like
You will typically run three to four jobs a day across the Leicester area. Some days that is unblocking drains and jetting out a nasty gully. Some days it is a CCTV survey on a residential drain where the homeowner has no idea why their toilet keeps backing up. Some days it is a reactive plumbing call where someone has water coming through their kitchen ceiling.
You will diagnose the problem, fix what you can on the day, and where further work is needed, you will explain it clearly, quote for it, and follow it through. You do not need someone looking over your shoulder to do that. You just get on with it.
Day to day, you will be carrying out:
Reactive drainage work including clearing blockages in drains, gullies and toilets using rods, jetting and mechanical cleaning; CCTV surveys with clear reporting on what you find; hydro-scrubbing and descaling to remove fat and limescale from pipe walls; and CIPP resin patch repairs on defective joints, cracks and displaced sections using no-dig lining techniques.
Reactive plumbing work including diagnosing and repairing leaks on pipework, taps, toilets, traps and fittings; replacing taps, WC flush mechanisms, isolation valves and similar components; and making safe any urgent plumbing issues and advising customers on what needs doing next.
What we are looking for
You do not need to tick every single box, but you do need to have genuine hands-on experience of reactive drainage work. Specifically, clearing blockages regularly should be a normal part of what you do, not something you have done occasionally. You should be comfortable using CCTV survey equipment and be able to read the footage and know what you are looking at. And you should be able to handle reactive plumbing repairs confidently, the sort of day-to-day fixes that keep domestic and light commercial customers out of trouble.
CIPP patch repair experience is a real advantage and if you have it we want to hear from you. If you do not have it but everything else fits, we will train the right person properly. We have done it before and we are happy to do it again for someone with the right attitude and work ethic.
A clean UK driving licence is essential. WJA certification is preferred. Any drainage or plumbing qualifications are a bonus but not a barrier if your experience is solid.
What you will get
The basic salary is £30,000. The commission structure is genuine and uncapped. Engineers who work hard and develop additional skills in CIPP patching and no-dig repairs are consistently achieving £55,000 to £65,000 and above. That is not a figure we have put there to look attractive. It is what our good engineers are earning.
You will get a fully equipped company van, fuel card, tools, uniform and PPE. You will get proper training and development if you want it, including in CIPP patching and hydro-scrubbing techniques. There is a company pension and real progression available for someone who wants to grow.
Hours are Monday to Friday with some flexibility required for reactive work. Occasional overtime and weekend cover is part of the role, but this is not a job that will grind you down. We look after our engineers because without them, there is no business.
How to apply
Send us your CV and a short note about your experience. We are not looking for a perfectly formatted cover letter. We just want to know what you have actually done, where you have done it, and why you think this is the right move for you. We will come back to you quickly.
