Full job description

Job Overview

Enable people to live fulfilling and valued lifestyles by offering them individually tailored support based on ‘ordinary living’ principles.
Ensure that service user’s emotional, spiritual, material, physical and health needs are recognised, assessed and met through team and partnership working.
Work under the guidance and direction of the Senior Support Worker/Team Leader and in accordance with the statutory and regulatory requirements and the organisation’s Policies and Procedures.
Ensure a high-quality service that reflects and works within the Community’s ethos and values.

Responsibilities

Provide individualised care and support in accordance with the needs and preferences of the individual in a safe and compassionate way. Ensure effectiveness of care and support provision by working to individual support, care and management plans.
Assist with specialist care provision such as catheter care, speech therapy, diabetes management, communication and mobility needs.
Empower individuals to make decisions based upon informed choice, and recognise and respect the right to exercise choice in the delivery of their care and support.
Support and assist individuals to attend to their personal care needs whilst respecting their dignity and promoting independence.
Recognise, respond and report safeguarding issues in compliance with the organisation’s Safeguarding Policies and Procedures.
Adhere to positive behaviour support strategies in accordance with management plans.
Maintain confidentiality at all times and uphold the General Data Protection Regulations.
Support individuals to enable them to live in houses which are safe, clean, aesthetically pleasing and well maintained, by giving the necessary support and assisting them in reporting repairs.
Work with individuals to engage in everyday household chores such as cooking and meal preparation, laundry, cleaning, etc. and to ensure all household tasks are carried out to a high standard.
Contribute to assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of Person-centred Support and Care Plans in order to address identified needs.
Have positive working relationships with residents, day attenders, residents’ family members, staff and other key stakeholders.
Enable people to access good health care by supporting them to attend appointments and to get the help they need from relevant health and social care disciplines.
Empower and assist people to attend social, leisure, educational and sporting activities of their choice and support the individual to plan for short breaks / holidays if wished.
Assist individuals in the administration of medication and associated record keeping in line with the organisation’s policies and procedures.
Support individuals to go shopping for personal items and assist them in the management of their finances and associated record keeping in line with the organisation’s policies and procedures.
Keep accurate records, carrying out all recording and reporting in a legible, objective and factual manner with due regard for confidentiality and data protection.
Work within a team to promote a safe working and living environment.

Cultural, Social and Home-life Management

Ensure that the house is clean and tidy at all times. Supervise cleaning staff to ensure thorough, efficient cleaning. Make the shared spaces attractive by use of colour, flowers, plants, pictures, etc.
Initiate cultural and social events within the house eg birthday parties, story reading, board games, hobbies, drawing, painting, crafts, music and singing.
Celebrate weekly (eg Sunday) and seasonal festivals within the house through decorations, reading verses and texts, promoting singing.
Familiarise yourself with the history and ethos of Camphill through reading and also attending training and events on this theme.
Encourage and ensure individuals’ daily physical exercise eg walking, cycling, games.
Participate with residents in cultural and social community events.
Be aware of the weekly timetable so the residents can participate in events and share all relevant information with them.
Offer help and support to other houses if needed.
Promote and maintain environmental standards and sustainability eg efficient use of resources, not wasting food or energy, promoting recycling.
Ensure the meals are of a high quality of nutrition, presentation and enjoyment eg five daily portions of fruit/vegetables, sufficient protein, organic/biodynamic produce is used where possible, reduce sugar and highly processed food, ensure special diets are catered for.
Work within the ethos and values of the organisation.
Work to a high standard and in a safe manner in accordance with the statutory and regulatory requirements and the organisation’s Policies and Procedures.
Attend and participate in team meetings and staff review process such as supervision and appraisal.
Adhere to NISCC Standards of Conduct and Practice and keep registration up to date.
Participate in both mandatory and continuing professional development training as directed.
Be able to work a flexible rota which will include weekends, unsocial hours and night duty.

Qualifications

Essential

Good literacy, numeracy and computer skills.

Two years' of experience in a care/support role.

Good interpersonal skills.

Good communication skills.

Ability to use initiative.

Calm and level-headed.

Patient and tolerant.

Approachable and understanding.

Respectful.

Flexibility to be part of a rota of staff support, working unsocial hours, weekends and nights.

Candidates must respect the ethos of Camphill Community Clanabogan and work within its values.

Desirable

NVQ/QCF Level II in the Health and Social Care or allied professional qualification.

Full clean driver’s licence.

Pay: £13.35 per hour
