We are looking for an experienced and highly organised Fleet Manager to lead our logistics and transport operations. You will be responsible for overseeing our fleet of 43 vehicles, including 3 Heavy Goods vehicles, ensuring maximum uptime, cost-efficiency, and strict legal compliance. The ideal candidate is a strategic problem-solver who can drive sustainability initiatives while maintaining day-to-day operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all fleet operations strictly adhere to transport legislation, Operator Licence requirements, and health & safety standards.
- Maintenance & Servicing: Coordinate vehicle maintenance, MOT planning, and repair schedules with internal teams and external suppliers to minimise downtime.
- Cost Management: Oversee fleet budgets, monitor fuel consumption, and optimise procurement strategies (leasing vs. purchasing).
- Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and schedule drivers and transport staff, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement through regular vehicle checks
- Data & Analytics: Utilise fleet management software and telematics to track performance, analyse trends, and report on KPIs.
- Insurance and accident management, reporting and co ordination: Manage all RTA claims and reports to satisfactory conclusion and work with department managers to arrange vehicle repairs.
- Plant, tools and machinery: Collate and maintain a detail list of company property, carry out checks, arrange Pat Testing and organise repairs in a timely fashion whist controlling costs and working with departmental managers to ensure financial control and recovery where applicable.
Requirements
- Experience: Proven experience in managing commercial vehicle fleets.
- Qualifications: National Transport Manager CPC, and a valid UK Driving Licence.
- Compliance Knowledge: Deep understanding of DVSA regulations, driver hours, and working time directives.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with fleet telematics, tracking software, and MS Excel.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, negotiation, and crisis management skills
