We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated, dynamic nurse who can demonstrate commitment to the provision of high-quality person-centred care, within our Endoscopy department.
As an Assistant Practitioner will work as part of a team, delivering health and social
care that focus on the direct needs of the service users. Working autonomously within the clearly defined boundaries of their Assistant Practitioner role and carry out specific clinical tasks and responsibilities that may cross professional demarcations of care and therapy.
To participate in the care, maintenance and use of endoscopes that are used in
endoscopic and non-endoscopic procedures, providing technical assistance during
procedures.

Preparation for the delivery of endoscopic procedures
Positioning individuals for endoscopic procedures
Assisting colleagues during endoscopic procedures
Admit, discharge and care planning of patients undergoing colonoscopy and
flexible sigmoidoscopy.
Recovery of patients following endoscopic procedures
Utilise excellent communication skills with other members of the multidisciplinary team to include the endoscopist.
Knowledge of reprocessing of endoscopic equipment
The Endoscopy Unit at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust sees both cancer and benign patients in the outpatient setting, running nurse and consultant led procedures and investigation clinics daily.
Torbay is a regional Endoscopy training centre and bowel cancer screening centre serving areas beyond its immediate catchment. The department is one of two centres in the newly formed South West Endoscopy Training Academy and there are great opportunities to become involved in steering
regional and national training opportunities.
The department has recently completed on the build of a new Endoscopy Suite, boasting brand new equipment, and up to date facilities. We offer support and advice to patients and other professionals within the acute and community setting and work alongside other departments to enhance the patient’s pathway of care.
