Senior Bookkeeper

Location: Heathfield, East Sussex

Salary: £34,000 per annum

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

About Us

Sherwood Roofing Contractors is part of a growing group of construction businesses operating throughout the South East. Alongside our roofing division, our group also includes a scaffolding contractor and a general building and decorating company, all operating from our office in Heathfield.

As our businesses continue to grow, we are looking to recruit an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to take ownership of the day-to-day bookkeeping and financial administration across all three companies.

This is a varied role offering the opportunity to become an integral part of our business, taking ownership of the bookkeeping function and providing accurate financial information to support management.

The Role

You will be responsible for the day-to-day bookkeeping and financial administration across all three companies within the group.

Your responsibilities will include:

Maintaining the purchase and sales ledgers.
Reconciling bank accounts and transactions.
Producing weekly Profit & Loss reports for management.
Raising customer invoices and ensuring the correct VAT, CIS and other relevant tax codes and deductions are applied.
Maintaining the sales ledger and monitoring customer accounts to ensure payments are received in a timely manner.
Processing supplier invoices and maintaining the purchase ledger.
Preparing supplier payment schedules for management approval.
Assisting with month-end procedures and preparing information for our external accountants.

About You

The successful applicant will have:

Previous experience as a bookkeeper.
Experience using Xero, QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
A good understanding of VAT and the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).
The ability to manage your own workload and work independently.
Strong organisational and communication skills.

Experience working within the construction industry would be advantageous but is not essential.

What We Offer

Salary of £34,000 per annum.
Full-time, permanent employment.
Office-based role in Heathfield.
Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm.
28 days' annual leave, including bank holidays. Please note that 5 days of annual leave are reserved for the mandatory Christmas shutdown when the business closes.
An additional day's annual leave awarded for each completed year of service, up to a maximum of 5 additional days.
