Help Keep Community Transport Moving in Pembrokeshire
PACTO (Pembrokeshire Association of Community Transport Organisations) is seeking a motivated and experienced individual to lead the delivery of MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) training and assessments across Pembrokeshire and West Wales.
This is a flexible and rewarding role that plays a vital part in supporting community transport organisations, charities, voluntary groups, local authorities and volunteer drivers to operate safely and confidently.
As our current Driver Assessor Trainer prepares for retirement, we are looking for someone who can build on a well-established programme and continue supporting the community transport sector throughout the region.
MiDAS Driver Assessor Trainer (DAT) / Training Coordinator
Responsible To: General Manager, PACTO
Salary: £14.88 per hour
Hours: Flexible, according to demand, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Minimum 10 hours per week. Actual hours worked will vary depending on training bookings and project requirements.
Location: Home-based, with access to PACTO office facilities in Narberth.
The postholder will be expected to travel throughout Pembrokeshire and occasionally elsewhere in West Wales to deliver training, undertake assessments and attend meetings.
Mileage and approved expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with PACTO policies.
About the Role
The MiDAS Driver Assessor Trainer (DAT) / Training Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and delivering MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) training and assessments, supporting the development of safe and accessible community transport services across Pembrokeshire and West Wales.
The postholder will promote driver safety, accessibility and best practice, while supporting community transport organisations, voluntary groups, local authorities and other partners through the provision of training, guidance and compliance support.
The role also supports the development and implementation of wheelchair passenger safety initiatives, including PACTO's Wheelchair Passport Scheme, and contributes to wider community transport development opportunities across the region.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
MiDAS Training and Assessments
- Attain and maintain MiDAS Driver Assessor Trainer (DAT) accreditation.
- Plan, organise, promote and deliver MiDAS training courses, refresher courses and practical driver assessments.
- Maintain high standards of driver training, safety and passenger care in line with MiDAS requirements and relevant legislation.
- Support community transport organisations, charities, schools, local authorities and other organisations requiring MiDAS training.
- Maintain accurate records of trained drivers, assessments undertaken, certification awarded and refresher training requirements.
- Monitor certification expiry dates and liaise with organisations and drivers regarding renewals.
Wheelchair Passenger Safety and Accessibility
- Coordinate and develop PACTO's Wheelchair Passport Scheme and associated training activities.
- Assess the suitability of wheelchairs and wheelchair users for transport within community transport vehicles where appropriate.
- Promote best practice in wheelchair passenger safety, accessibility, disability awareness and passenger assistance.
- Maintain awareness of current guidance and legal requirements relating to accessible transport and wheelchair passenger safety.
Community Transport Development
- Support volunteer recruitment and development within the community transport sector.
- Identify emerging training needs within community transport organisations and develop opportunities to address those needs.
- Assist with the development and delivery of additional transport, accessibility and volunteer training programmes.
- Promote community transport best practice and contribute to sector development initiatives across Pembrokeshire and West Wales.
- Build positive relationships with community transport operators, statutory organisations, voluntary groups and partner agencies.
Administration and Coordination
- Manage training bookings, participant records and associated administration.
- Arrange suitable training venues, vehicles and equipment required for training delivery.
- Maintain stocks of training materials, certificates and associated resources.
- Assist with the preparation of invoices, income records and training statistics as required.
- Ensure compliance with PACTO policies and procedures, including health and safety, safeguarding, equality and data protection requirements.
Monitoring and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of all training and assessment activity.
- Produce regular reports on training delivery, participant numbers, income generation, outcomes and emerging sector needs.
- Provide reports and updates to the General Manager.
- Contribute information and performance data for Trustee Board meetings, funder reports and organisational monitoring requirements.
- Participate in supervision meetings, team meetings and organisational planning activities.
General
- Maintain awareness of legislative and regulatory changes affecting community transport, volunteer drivers, passenger transport operations and accessibility.
- Represent PACTO professionally at meetings, training events and partnership activities.
- Undertake any other duties reasonably consistent with the nature and level of the post as requested by the General Manager.
