Deputy Manager (Nursing Home)

Salary: From £45,000 per year

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Hours: Core hours Mon–Fri, 09:00–17:00 (Flexibility for days, nights, and on-call rotation required)

Pure Med Recruitment is seeking a versatile, hands-on Deputy Care Home Manager to bridge the gap between clinical excellence and operational management at our facility in Caldicot.

This role requires a strong, proactive leader with a deep understanding of CIW regulations and a commitment to high-quality, relationship-centred care. You will divide your week to maintain both clinical standards and strong operational governance:

Clinical Practice (2 days/week): Working on-the-floor to ensure exceptional care delivery, leading by example, and mentoring the team.
Management & Governance (3 days/week): Dedicated to administrative duties, including audits, care planning, occupancy support, and team development.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operational Management

Oversee daily care provision and deputise for the General Manager during absences.
Manage staff rotas efficiently, ensuring the correct skill mix aligns with residents' needs.
Lead recruitment, onboarding, appraisals, and ongoing training for the team.
Drive occupancy, support the resident move-in process, and ensure financial/legal documentation is completed prior to admission.
Maintain open communication with residents, relatives, and external stakeholders.

Clinical Governance & Quality Care

Lead the assessment, planning, and evaluation of relationship-centred and dementia care.
Oversee the safe administration and auditing of medications in line with internal policies and best practices.
Handle internal investigations, disciplinaries, and root cause analyses when required.
Ensure all hospitality and care services strictly adhere to statutory, regulatory, and company frameworks.

Health, Safety & Compliance

Take ownership of clinical outcomes, internal/external audits, and health and safety legislation.
Complete risk assessments and accurately report any accidents, incidents, or near-misses.
Ensure all clinical team members adhere to their professional codes of conduct and maintain active registration.

Candidate Requirements

Essential Criteria:

NMC Registration: Must hold a current, valid NMC PIN as a Registered Nurse (RGN).
Qualifications: QCF Level 4 / ILM 4 in Management (or an equivalent qualification recognised by Social Care Wales).
Experience: Extensive experience within a residential or nursing care setting, showcasing a deep grasp of clinical governance and CIW regulations.
Flexibility: Ability to work clinical shifts (at least twice a week, covering days/nights in emergencies) and share on-call duties every 1–2 weeks.
Skills: Strong IT literacy (Microsoft Office), exceptional negotiation/conflict-resolution skills, and a proven track record of leading teams under pressure.
Travel: Willingness to travel to sister homes for training or support if required.

Desirable Criteria:

Proven experience specializing in care for individuals living with dementia.
A naturally approachable, transparent, and collaborative leadership style.

Pay: £45,000.00 per year
