JOB PURPOSE Job Summary The Head of Marketing and Communications will lead the development and delivery of a comprehensive, data-driven marketing strategy to enhance brand visibility, drive engagement, and support organisational growth. This role is responsible for overseeing all marketing functions including brand, digital, campaigns, content, and communications, while ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and stakeholder priorities. The postholder will provide strong leadership to the marketing team, manage workflow, pace and team capacity to achieve programme and organisational project milestones, drive innovation and accountability, ensuring all marketing activity is measurable, impactful, and delivers a return on investment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Marketing Strategy & Leadership Develop and implement the overall marketing and communications strategy aligned with organisational objectives Provide strategic input into business planning, growth initiatives, and organisational positioning Lead, inspire, and manage the marketing team to deliver high-quality, high-impact outcomes Stay up to date with market trends, sector developments, and emerging innovations Oversee annual marketing planning, reporting, budgets, and forecasting processes
Brand & Positioning Define, develop, and strengthen brand identity, positioning, and value proposition Ensure consistency in messaging, tone of voice, and visual identity across all channels Lead brand awareness and reputation management initiatives Ensure all outputs align with brand guidelines and campaign toolkits Campaign & Communications Management Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of integrated marketing campaigns across programmes and organisational priorities Ensure effective coordination of online and offline channels Manage content strategy across social media, website, email communications, PR, and print
Shape, directly support the CEO, and guide all public affairs/relations and marketing campaigns, including stakeholder communications e.g. local authorities, MPs, and funders Ensure campaigns are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget Support development and delivery of key organisational campaigns and initiatives Digital & Growth Marketing Lead digital marketing strategy for SEO, SEM, paid media, email marketing, and social media Oversee website performance, UX improvements, and digital optimisation Manage digital platforms including CMS (WordPress, Divi) Drive customer/audience acquisition, retention, and engagement strategies Oversee social media performance including scheduling, reporting, and paid advertising (Meta Business Suite, etc.) Data, Analytics & Performance Reporting Deliver against and monitor KPIs to evaluate marketing effectiveness and impact Use analytics tools (GA4, Google Tag Manager, Google Ads, SEO tools) to track performance Produce quarterly business review (QBR) and regular performance reports Apply data-driven insights to optimise campaigns, improve ROI, and inform decisionmaking Monitor website traffic, engagement, conversions, and audience behaviour CRM & Data Management Oversee CRM system management including data integrity, segmentation, customer journey, and platform reporting Support organisation-wide use of CRM through training, templates, and best practice Utilise CRM data to support targeted campaigns and stakeholder engagement Ensure compliance with data protection and data management standards
Budgeting & Resource Management manage and monitor the marketing budget, ensuring cost efficiency and best procurement practices – with environmental sustainability in mind Allocate resources effectively across campaigns, channels, and priorities Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships Work collaboratively with internal teams including Delivery Programmes, Fundraising, and Innovation & Partnerships Partner with external agencies, media, designers, and suppliers Represent marketing at senior level and contribute to cross-functional decisionmaking Manage relationships with key stakeholders and partners to enhance visibility and impact Content, Creative & Production Oversee development of high-quality content including campaigns, case studies, newsletters, reports, and multimedia assets Ensure consistent and effective copywriting aligned to brand strategy
Lead production of marketing materials (digital and print) including brochures, flyers, and promotional assets Manage print production processes, suppliers, and distribution logistics Oversee design quality, utilising tools such as Canva (Adobe Suite advantageous) Events & Campaign Delivery Lead and support delivery of key organisational events including conferences, campaigns, and engagement activities Ensure marketing and promotional strategies maximise event reach and impact Coordinate timelines, communications, and reporting for events and campaigns Team Leadership & Development Line manage and mentor marketing team development Implement structured 1:1s, annual appraisals, and CPD plans Create a collaborative, high-performance team culture Support skills development across digital, content, analytics, and campaign delivery SKILLS & EXPERIENCE Essential Degree in relevant field OR relevant professional qualification Proven experience in a senior marketing role with strategic responsibility Strong leadership and team management capabilities Excellent strategic thinking and analytical skills Strong digital marketing experience (SEO, PPC, email, social media, analytics) Experience using Google Analytics (GA4), CRM systems, CMS and SaaS platforms Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and interpersonal skills Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities Data-driven approach to decision-making Knowledge of compliance, photo consent, and GDPR in direct marketing Desirable Experience in charity, public sector, or health/wellbeing sector Experience with WordPress/Divi or equivalent CMS platforms Experience with Beacon CRM or equivalent platform Design and content creation skills (e.g. Canva or Adobe Creative Suite) Experience in PR, partnerships, or fundraising campaigns Confident working with external consultants and subject matter experts Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Campaign ROI and conversion rates Brand awareness, reach, and engagement Lead generation and audience acquisition Website performance (traffic, engagement, conversion rates) Digital campaign effectiveness (CTR, CPC, etc.) CRM growth and engagement metrics Budget management and efficiency Team performance and development

There is access to an office every day of the week, or staff can choose to work from home. There is an expectation that staff travel to the St Ives office at least twice a week including for any team and staff meetings and for other meetings as required. There will sometimes be a need for travel around the Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and wider partnership area which will necessitate the postholder having access to suitable transport. If driving oneself, a current valid driving licence and access to a vehicle available for work purposes with business cover insurance is required.
