Buddhist Chaplain – HMP Peterborough
This is an excellent opportunity to join the Chaplaincy team at HMP Peterborough as a Buddhist Chaplain, providing spiritual guidance, pastoral care, and faith-based support to residents, staff, and their families.
The successful candidate will be a committed and practising Buddhist with a strong understanding of Buddhist teachings, philosophy, and rituals. You will play a vital role in supporting the spiritual well-being of those in custody, delivering compassionate pastoral care in line with PSI 51 on Pastoral Care.
You will be confident in communicating in English, have relevant experience within a faith or pastoral setting, and hold endorsement from the Prison Service Buddhist Faith Adviser (evidence required prior to appointment).

Main Responsibilities

Provide pastoral care, spiritual guidance, and faith-based support to prisoners, staff, and their families.

Lead worship, prayer sessions, study groups, and faith-specific programmes.

Support and mentor chaplains and volunteers, ensuring chaplaincy services are accessible at all times.

Collaborate with colleagues to plan religious events, maintain worship facilities, and manage faith materials.

Build and maintain links with local faith communities and contribute to staff faith awareness training.

Assist with policy development, data reporting, and continuous improvement of chaplaincy services.

The Ideal Candidate

A committed and practising Buddhist with a strong understanding of Buddhist teachings, philosophy, and rituals.

Experienced in providing pastoral care within a faith or community setting.

Endorsed by the Prison Service Buddhist Faith Adviser (evidence required prior to appointment).

Confident in communicating in English, delivering services and support with clarity and compassion.

Demonstrates empathy, integrity, and resilience, with a professional and caring approach.

Committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment while upholding high standards of service.

Successful candidates will need to complete Enhanced Level 2 & CTC checks (processed on-site).
