Assistant Stockperson

To be an active member of the Maryon Wilson Animal Park (MWAP) team providing assistance with all aspects of animal care, record keeping, maintenance of the animal enclosures and general grounds maintenance.
The Parks Estates and Open Spaces Department in the Directorate of Community Environment and Central services is responsible for Parks Grounds Maintenance in all Royal Borough of Greenwich parks estates and open spaces.
We are looking for someone with a keen interest in animal welfare ideally with a recognised formal qualification in farm animal care, and the ability to carry out grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, strimming and hedge trimming. Someone who is able to work on their own initiative and eager to learn and is driven and self-motivated to deliver high quality work for a unique and exciting London borough.
Professional Duties:

As allocated by your line managers, perform a range of animal management duties which include specific tasks and gardening duties.

Deal politely with visitors and contractors at the animal park and be able to deliver a good level of customer service at all times.

Provide advice and information to visitors at the animal park, by telephone, email or in person and on occasion by telephone and email

To work flexibly to ensure that the animals are fed and cared for on a day-to-day basis.

To provide cover in the Stockperson Supervisor’s absence.
Team Specific Tasks:

Assist with the general welfare and safety of the animal stock in compliance with current relevant legislation and best practice recommendations as issued by the relevant authorities.

Assist with the day-to-day work at the animal park, ensuring that daily routines and procedures are carried out in accordance with the MWAP management plan

Assist with all ground’s maintenance duties.
Personal Development:

To undertake a varied programme of onsite practical training.

To actively participate in your own development plan, which will be agreed with the line manager to undertake requirements for the academic element of the job (e.g. attendance at college and completion of academic work) if you do not already hold a recognised formal qualification in farm animal care.
