A vacancy has arisen within the company, for a Quality Control Technician.

Northumbria Optical Coatings was established in 1995 and is an independent manufacturing company with 25 staff, based in the North East on Boldon Business Park.
The company produces bespoke precision Infrared Optical Interference Filters and Optics which are manufactured on glass like substrates and coated with various materials using high vacuum coating machines.
The filters that are manufactured are used in a number of diverse applications including gas analysis, environmental monitoring, breathalysers, Infrared cameras and sensing instruments.
Main Purpose of Job:
Quality Control of optical filters
Relationships:
Responsible to: Quality Manager
Liaison with: Optics Manager, Quality Manager, Production Staff, Admin
Main Tasks of Job:
Working alongside a busy manufacturing department and Liaising with the Optics Manager on priorities the successful applicant will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Cleaning and inspection of all manufactured products
- Handling small fragile optics
- Data logging progress using Microsoft Excel
- Understanding specifications and tolerances
- Working to customer drawings
- Packing and despatch of completed customer orders
- Updating stock levels and ensuring adequate stock is on site
- Updating ERP System
- Using metrology equipment to determine pass or fail result
- Be able to work alone or as part of a team to strict standard operating procedures (in accordance with ISO9001 standards)
Skills and Attributes
The successful applicant should demonstrate:
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify very small cosmetic or dimensional defects.
- The ability to accurately interpret specifications, tolerances and technical/customer drawings.
- A careful and methodical approach to work.
- Good computer literacy, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- The ability to accurately record and maintain technical and quality information.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage changing priorities.
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision when required.
- The ability to communicate and work effectively as part of a small team.
- A responsible approach to quality, accuracy and product traceability.
Attention to detail is crucial, in particular interpreting specifications and tolerances applicable to customer drawings. A good eye for scratches, chips and digs in or on the components is also essential.
Terms & Conditions
- Hours – 37 per week over 4 days (Mon-Thursday)
- Holidays – 20 days per annum plus statutory holidays
- Pension – 10% after 3 months (paid by company)
Job Types: Permanent, Full-time
Pay: £20,875.40-£24,454.04 per year
