Job Title: Student Support Mentor – Preparation for Adulthood (Cross College)

Department: Additional Learning Support

Salary: £24,519 – £24,631 per annum

Contractual Hours: 37 hours per week

Basis: Teaching Support, Whole-Time, Permanent

Annual Leave: 30 days per annum plus bank holidays

Pension: Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)

Location: Middlesbrough College (Cross‑College role)

Job Role

We are seeking a committed and empathetic Student Support Mentor – Preparation for Adulthood to join our Additional Learning Support (ALS) team at Middlesbrough College. You will work directly with over 200 students with EHCPs across all departments and levels of the College, supporting them to achieve their Preparation for Adulthood (PFA) outcomes. This rewarding role focuses on empowering learners to develop independence, emotional wellbeing, life skills and confidence beyond their academic programmes.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver tailored study support and targeted interventions for students with EHCPs across the College
Support learners to meet Preparation for Adulthood outcomes, including wellbeing, independence, relationships, travel training and financial awareness
Work collaboratively with curriculum teams to identify student needs and implement effective support strategies
Plan, deliver and evaluate individual and group interventions, tracking impact and progress
Maintain accurate records of interventions using College systems, including Digital Learning Logs and One Page Profiles
Attend “At Risk” meetings, multi‑agency meetings and departmental reviews as required

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Essential:

Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) in supporting students with learning difficulties, care or support (or willingness to achieve)
GCSE Grade 4/C or above in English and Maths (or equivalent)
Experience or understanding of supporting students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities
Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships with learners and staff
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Desirable:

Risk Assessment and First Aid qualifications
Experience of delivering targeted interventions
Knowledge of Health & Social Care contexts
