Human Resources Manager

Location: Mansfield, Nottinghamshire
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 DOE
Department: Human Resources
Reports to: Managing Director
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday

About the Role

Miller Knight is looking for an experienced and proactive Human Resources Manager to take ownership of our HR function and play a key role in supporting the continued growth and development of the business.

This is a hands-on HR leadership role where you will work closely with the Managing Director and wider management team, providing trusted advice and support across the full employee lifecycle.

We are looking for someone who understands that good HR is about more than policies and processes. You'll need to be confident dealing with people, comfortable having difficult conversations, commercially minded, and passionate about creating a positive, high-performing workplace culture.

You'll be responsible for ensuring our HR practices are legally compliant, consistent and effective, while also helping Miller Knight attract, develop and retain the right people.

What You'll Be Doing

HR Strategy & Leadership

Develop and implement HR strategies that support Miller Knight's business objectives and continued growth.
Act as the main point of contact for HR matters across the organisation.
Work closely with the Managing Director and management team on people strategy, workforce planning and organisational development.
Lead HR projects and identify opportunities to improve our people processes and ways of working.
Monitor HR performance and provide regular reporting and meaningful workforce insights to senior management.

Employee Relations

Provide confident and practical advice to managers and employees on a broad range of HR matters.
Manage and advise on disciplinary, grievance, capability, absence and performance matters.
Support managers with difficult conversations, conflict resolution and employee relations issues.
Lead investigations where required and ensure processes are fair, consistent and legally compliant.
Provide advice and support around flexible working, family leave and other employment-related matters.

Recruitment & Onboarding

Work alongside hiring managers to support effective recruitment and selection processes.
Ensure recruitment practices are fair, inclusive and compliant.
Support the development of effective onboarding and induction processes.
Help build and maintain a strong talent pipeline across the business.

Performance & Development

Develop and manage effective performance management and appraisal processes.
Support managers with setting objectives, managing performance and addressing underperformance.
Identify training and development needs across the organisation.
Support succession planning and career development.
Coordinate learning and development initiatives and evaluate their effectiveness.
Promote strong leadership and management practices across the business.

Policies, Processes & Compliance

Develop, review and implement HR policies and procedures.
Ensure the business remains compliant with current UK employment legislation.
Keep up to date with changes in employment law and advise the business on any required changes.
Ensure HR processes are consistently applied across the organisation.
Maintain accurate, confidential and GDPR-compliant employee records.
Oversee HR systems, documentation and workforce reporting.

Act as a trusted and approachable point of contact for employees.

About You

We're looking for an experienced HR professional who is confident operating at management level and can take ownership of the HR function.

You'll ideally have experience working in a standalone or senior HR role, with strong knowledge of UK employment legislation and employee relations.

You'll be someone who can build strong relationships with people at all levels, but who is also comfortable challenging managers and having difficult conversations when necessary.

We'd Like You to Have:

CIPD Level 5 qualification or equivalent experience (Level 7 desirable).
Proven experience in a HR Manager, HR Business Partner or similar senior HR role.
Strong knowledge of UK employment legislation and HR best practice.
Solid experience managing employee relations, including disciplinary, grievance, capability and absence cases.
Experience developing and implementing HR policies and processes.
Experience supporting recruitment, onboarding, performance management and employee development.
Strong communication, influencing and conflict-resolution skills.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
High levels of confidentiality, integrity and attention to detail.
Good working knowledge of HR systems and Microsoft Office.
