Role Overview

The Senior System Engineer – Body Control Features is responsible for the end‑to‑end systems engineering delivery of vehicle body control features across automotive programmes. With 7–10 years of experience, the role plays a key technical leadership position, bridging vehicle‑level requirements, ECU design, supplier solutions, and vehicle integration to ensure reliable, safe, and high‑quality body electronics feature delivery.

Key Objectives

Deliver robust and compliant body control feature definitions from concept to SOP
Ensure seamless integration of body ECUs, networks, and actuators
Provide technical leadership and decision‑making within the body electronics domain

Key Responsibilities

· Lead system‑level definition and ownership of body control vehicle features (e.g. lighting, access, locking, mirrors, wipers, comfort and convenience systems).

· Elicit and manage vehicle, system, and component‑level requirements using JAMA / DOORS ensuring full traceability.

· Decompose high‑level vehicle and regulatory requirements into ECU‑level functional and non‑functional requirements.

· Define body electronics system architectures including Body Control Modules (BCMs), distributed ECUs, sensors, and actuators.

· Own and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) covering CAN/LIN signals, diagnostics, and power management interfaces.

· Lead technical engagement with Tier‑1 suppliers including design reviews, requirements clarification, and issue resolution.

· Support creation and maintenance of DFMEAs, DVP&R, and validation strategies for body features.

· Plan and support validation activities including bench, rig, and vehicle testing.

· Investigate system‑level issues during integration and testing, performing root‑cause analysis and driving closure plans.

· Support gateway reviews, readiness assessments, and release sign‑off for body control features.

· Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance within the body electronics team.

· Ensure features comply with functional safety, cybersecurity, and applicable regulatory standards.

Body Control Feature Domains

· Exterior and interior lighting systems

· Vehicle access, locking, and immobiliser interfaces

· Wipers, washers and rain/light sensor integration

· Mirror, window and seat control systems

· Comfort and convenience features

· Power management and sleep/wake strategies

Technical Skills & Knowledge

· Strong systems engineering fundamentals and structured problem‑solving

· Automotive body electronics architectures

· Vehicle networks: CAN, LIN (Body domain focus)

· Diagnostics: UDS, DTC definition, diagnostic sessions

· Requirements management and traceability

· Electrical interfaces, IOs, sensors and actuators

· Understanding of embedded software behaviour in body ECUs

· Change and configuration management

Tools & Technologies

· JAMA, DOORS (Requirements Management)

· JIRA, Confluence (Task and documentation management)

· OEM and supplier diagnostic tools

· CAN/LIN analysis tools (e.g. CANalyzer/CANoe)

Standards & Compliance

The role requires strong working knowledge of automotive standards including ISO 26262 (Functional Safety), ISO 21434 (Cybersecurity), Automotive SPICE, and relevant lighting and vehicle regulations.

Experience Required

7–10 years of experience in automotive systems or body electronics engineering
Proven experience delivering body control features within OEM or Tier‑1 environments
Experience leading technical discussions with suppliers and cross‑functional teams

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Pay: £60,000.00-£65,000.00 per year
