Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer / Estimator to join our Projects team in York.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining technical design expertise with commercial awareness. In this role, you will work closely with our Projects team to produce electrical designs, technical proposals and accurate project costings from initial enquiry through to project delivery. This is a full-time, office-based role in York, Monday to Friday, with occasional site visits as required.
What you’ll be doing
- Attending site surveys and meeting with clients, architects and contractors to understand project requirements
- Reviewing existing electrical infrastructure, specifications and tender documentation
- Producing electrical designs for a wide range of LV projects
- Completing electrical calculations, including load assessments, cable sizing and distribution requirements
- Developing renewable and energy-efficient solutions to support sustainability and zero-carbon objectives
- Preparing technical drawings, schematics and supporting design information
- Preparing accurate estimates, quotations and tender submissions for electrical packages
- Obtaining and evaluating supplier, manufacturer and subcontractor quotations
- Producing bills of quantities, material take-offs and detailed cost breakdowns
- Identifying risks, exclusions, assumptions and value-engineering opportunities
- Collaborating with internal teams to develop fully costed technical proposals
- Providing technical support during installation and commissioning phases
- Producing as-fitted documentation where required
- Ensuring all designs and estimates comply with relevant UK regulations and industry standards
What we’re looking for
- Previous experience in electrical estimating and/or electrical design, ideally within industrial or building services environments
- A strong understanding of UK electrical regulations and relevant Building Regulations
- Experience preparing quotations, tenders, technical proposals and cost breakdowns
- The ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and tender documents with confidence
- Knowledge of containment, power distribution, lighting and fire alarm installations
- Competence in CAD and electrical design software
- Strong commercial awareness, technical ability and attention to detail
- Confidence managing multiple tenders, projects and deadlines
- Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving skills
- A practical approach and the ability to produce clear, accurate technical documentation
- Knowledge of renewable technologies and available funding schemes would be advantageous
Job type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum, depending on experience
