Do you want to use your bookkeeping skills to support a local charity making a real difference?
HFS is looking for an experienced, organised and reliable Bookkeeper to join our friendly team.
This is a varied part-time role where you'll be responsible for the day-to-day bookkeeping and financial administration of the charity, working closely with the CEO, Operations Manager and Treasurer to support the effective financial management of HFS.

About HFS
HFS is the local independent furniture and electrical reuse charity serving Hastings and Rother. Since 1988 we've helped local households who are struggling financially by providing affordable reused furniture and electrical goods.
Alongside this, we provide volunteering and employability opportunities that help people build confidence, develop skills and move into paid employment, while reducing waste and carbon emissions through reuse.
What you'll be doing
Your responsibilities will include:
- Maintaining accurate financial records.
- Processing invoices, receipts and payments.
- Reconciling accounts and managing day-to-day bookkeeping.
- Preparing payment runs, VAT returns and financial reports.
- Completing monthly payroll using Xero Payroll.
- Processing Gift Aid claims.
- Monitoring income and expenditure against budgets.
- Managing cash flow and liaising with banks.
- Providing financial information for contracts, funding and grant applications.
- Supporting the preparation of statutory accounts, budgets, forecasts and year-end procedures.
About you
We're looking for someone who:
- Has previous bookkeeping experience.
- Has a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
- Is proficient in accounting software, ideally Xero.
- Has excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Can work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Has strong communication skills and enjoys working with colleagues and external stakeholders.
A finance or accounting qualification would be an advantage but is not essential.
